After being sidelined since April 14, Carlos Alcaraz is finally back in his element. The 23-year-old had to withdraw from the Barcelona Open in April due to wrist tenosynovitis and subsequently missed the Madrid, Rome, and the French Open. A couple of weeks ago, Alcaraz was spotted on the practice court in Murcia still wearing his protective brace, hitting forehands with his left hand simply to keep his footwork sharp without stressing the injury. Now, he is running alongside his physical trainer, brace-free.
Carlos Alcaraz Spotted Running Without Wrist Protection Alongside His Trainer
Although fans would love to see him return at Wimbledon, Alcaraz preferred to heal completely first, as his condition is a tendon sheath inflammation, and rushing back would only make it worse. In fact, his time away from the travel schedule allowed him to train uninterrupted, and the results are positive.
Just hours ago, Alberto Lledó, Alcaraz’s longtime physical trainer, recently shared the Spaniard’s current fitness level, posting a video of the two of them running together with a caption:
“The weeks are flying by! I can’t keep up with you anymore,” he wrote. He also added a “rocky” hashtag comparing Alcaraz’s hard work to the iconic movie character. “Well done Carlitos, you set the industrial zones on fire like Rocky!” (Translated from Spanish)

Recently, David Ferrer, Spain’s Davis Cup captain who remains in close contact with Alcaraz, urged fans to remain patient, noting that Alcaraz’s recovery is going well.
“Stay calm. Rest assured that everything is going well,” Ferrer recently told Spanish outlet AS. “The important thing is that Carlos recovers completely, one day at a time. There’s no need to overthink it.”

Prior to the injury, Alcaraz played his opening match of the tournament against Otto Virtanen. While he managed to win the match in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), tests revealed the issue was much worse than anticipated. He was forced to give a walkover to his next opponent, Tomáš Macháč, and begin his prolonged absence from the tour.
Before Barcelona, he had a massive 22–3 match record and completed his Career Grand Slam, winning the 2026 Australian Open, defeating Novak Djokovic in a hard-fought four-set final. Alcaraz also won the Qatar Open in Doha, although he lost the world No. 1 spot to Jannik Sinner after the final defeat in Monte Carlo. Sinner went on a winning spree, capturing five ATP 1000 titles in a row before facing a physical collapse in the French Open.
