‘LOT of Tampering Going On’ — NHL Reporter Suspicious of Team USA Locker Room After Dylan Larkin’s Trade Request

Dylan Larkin’s trade request has already become one of the biggest stories of the NHL offseason, but the teams on his reported wish list may be raising even more questions than the request itself.

According to reports, Larkin approved just three destinations: Vegas, Minnesota, and Florida. That’s a surprisingly specific list, and it didn’t take long for some reporters to connect the dots.

All three teams have strong ties to Team USA’s gold medal-winning squad from the 2026 Winter Olympics, leading to growing speculation about what may have been discussed behind the scenes during that memorable run in Milano Cortina.

Dylan Larkin’s Trade Request Sparks Team USA Questions

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has hinted that Larkin may not be the only player looking for a change of scenery this summer. During a recent discussion with Sportsnet host Kyle Bukauskas, the pair jokingly referenced the Team USA Olympic group chat.

Friedman remarked that “there’s a lot going on out of there,” while Bukauskas joked that it might be “one of the more impactful group chats to ever exist.”

Those comments caught the attention of NHL reporter Rachel Kryshak, who suggested there could be more happening behind the scenes than people realize. “I was skeptical before, but the more I hear, the more I believe there is a LOT of tampering going on between all individuals involved with the US Olympic team.”

Team USA brought together many of the NHL’s top American players for a pressure-packed tournament that ended with an Olympic gold medal. Over those three weeks, players built strong relationships and experienced what it’s like to be surrounded by elite talent and a winning culture.

Larkin, whom teammates Zach Werenski and Brady Tkachuk described as the “heartbeat” of the gold medal team, was right in the middle of that environment. Returning to Detroit afterward, only to see the Red Wings miss the playoffs for a 10th consecutive season following another late-season collapse, may have changed his perspective.

It’s also hard to ignore the connections between Larkin’s preferred destinations and his Team USA teammates. Vegas features Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin. Minnesota is led by players such as Brock Faber, Matt Boldy, and Quinn Hughes. Florida, meanwhile, is home to Matthew Tkachuk.

Of course, proving any sort of tampering is another matter entirely. While NHL executives and general managers dislike the idea of players recruiting one another, casual conversations between teammates are nearly impossible to regulate. The league can’t exactly stop players from spending time together at an Olympic tournament and discussing what it’s like to play for their respective organizations.

Whether it’s tampering, friendly recruiting, or simply Larkin seeing firsthand what winning environments look like, Team USA’s Olympic run is now becoming an unavoidable part of the conversation surrounding his trade request.
