‘Pulled A Page Out Of The Bill Belichick Playbook’ — NFL Analysts React To Chiefs Bringing Back CB L’Jarius Sneed

The NFL offseason is in full swing, and the Kansas City Chiefs made an interesting move by bringing back cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.

The NFL offseason is in full swing, and plenty of moves have shaken up the league’s landscape. Many teams have already started OTAs and are looking to fill holes they may see on their roster. One team that is looking for a bounce-back season is the Kansas City Chiefs. They are coming off a surprisingly poor season, winning only six games and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Kansas City Chiefs Reunite With Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed

The Chiefs decided to trade cornerback Trent McDuffie this offseason, and that opened a hole for them in the secondary. Despite adding Mansoor Delane in the draft, the Chiefs still wanted another veteran in the room, and that is why they signed former Chief L’Jarius Sneed.

The Chiefs selected Sneed in the 4th round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played four seasons with the Chiefs, starting 54 games and recording 10 interceptions. The Chiefs traded Sneed to the Titans after the 2023 season, and he only played 12 games for them the past two seasons. Now Sneed is headed back to the Chiefs as a free agent signing.

Ari Meirov saw this move from Kansas City as one similar to what Bill Belichick used to do in New England. The Patriots were known for moving off players right before a big payday and then getting them back for cheaper a few years later. That is exactly what the Chiefs did here.

However, Sneed may no longer be the player he once was, as injuries have seemingly caught up to him in recent years. Most Chiefs fans are happy with the addition, assuming it is a cheap team-friendly deal.

DMac Wake said, “Assuming this is the minimum no problem with this signing to add a vet to the DB room and see what he has left in the tank.”

This seemed like a move that was destined to happen, as veteran players usually look for teams they are familiar with in free agency.

Alex Monfreda said, “Worst kept secret of the offseason, alongside A.J. Brown.” Sneed will be a part of a training camp competition to see where he fits on the depth chart.

It appears many Chiefs fans know Sneed is not the player he once was; if they can get something out of him, that would make them quite happy.

Ryan Linkletter said, “80% of what he was in 2024 would be ideal.”

The Chiefs are expecting to return to the league’s elite in 2026, as long as Patrick Mahomes can recover to full health. He is the anchor of their team, and their new defensive personnel will not matter if he is not playing at an elite level. The Chiefs may be an older team entering next season, but they are expected to be amongst the favorites yet again.
