Simone Biles revealed she survived a frightening medical emergency, telling followers that “almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.” The most decorated gymnast in history shared the news on her Instagram stories Saturday, posting a photo of three hospital wristbands and a screenshot of a heart rate monitor showing her pulse at 126 beats per minute.
The 29-year-old didn’t specify the nature of the medical incident, saying she would explain in more detail at a later date. She called it one of the scariest experiences of her life and said she remains on bed rest at home, where she thanked her close circle for visiting, checking in, and sending flowers.
The scare carried an added layer of difficulty: her husband, Jonathan Owens, was in Indianapolis for Colts offseason practices when it happened, leaving Biles to lean on family and friends in Texas. Owens signed with Indianapolis this offseason after a strong year in Chicago, and the timing of his new chapter collided with the hardest week of his wife’s.
Simone Biles Makes Shocking Revelation About Her Health
One of the most decorated names in US Olympic history, Biles already has 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals to her name. Tied for second behind only Larisa Latynina in Olympic medals won by a female gymnast, she has a chance to overtake that number.
Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022, she continues to cement her place in history, breaking Alfred Jochim’s 90-year record by winning her eighth US Gymnastics title.
However, in recent years, injuries have also played a major part in her career. Removing herself from the 2020 Summer Olympics due to the “twisties,” she even won the Comeback of the Year award in 2024.
But according to her recent online activity, she may have experienced her worst incident this summer. Taking to Instagram, she left her fans extremely worried about the situation.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age, but almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week,” she wrote on Instagram Stories with a photo of her hospital bracelets.
Her husband, in the meantime, was away training with the Colts, far from the couple’s estate in Texas. Over the last week, fans were worried about her health after she added the caption, “Just what the doctor ordered,” on a story.
Now, as she shared a few more pictures of bouquets for her, as well as a picture of herself under a quilt, curious-eyed fans could have noticed a resting heart rate of 126.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices. I’ve been in bed resting this week. I’ll explain sooner or later, but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers. Loooovveeee y’all.”
As the situation develops, we should have more information about the exact ailment affecting Biles. It doesn’t look like Owens will be returning anytime soon, as mandatory minicamp and offseason training are in full swing for the start of the NFL season.
