‘Chicago Made You’ — NFL World Rips Bears After Proposed Indiana Stadium Move

The Chicago Bears are eyeing a potential move to Indiana for a new stadium, but the football world is completely against the idea.

The Chicago Bears are inching ever closer to a change in location. After calling the Illinois region their home since inception, their stadium might undergo a change in the near future, with Indiana in the overwhelming lead.

Despite their uneven luck in recent years, the franchise remains an integral part of NFL history. As a result, social media was aghast at the decision, with many prominent voices campaigning against the decision, which could become a reality very soon.

Chicago Bears Warned Against Indiana Move

Prior to this decision, the Bears board had never voted on a stadium site. But after the end of the spring legislative session in Illinois, they came together to decide to shift to Indiana.

In a press release, chairman George H. McCaskey and CEO Kevin Warren made the joint declaration, “We believe a world-class stadium project in Hammond will transform the region, connecting Northwest Indiana to the South Side of Chicago through the Loop and across neighborhoods and suburbs stretching north of the city.”

Unfortunately, while they tried to sell it in rose-colored glasses, most of the football world was opposed to the idea. Independent journalist Terry Moran was aghast at the idea, sharing some harsh words against the group.

“Chicago made you,” he said. “Your family is worth $8 billion-plus. The team generates tens of millions of dollars for ownership every single year. You should never show your face in Chicago again if you do this.”

He wasn’t the only one deeply disturbed at the notion, with Aaron Leming of 247Sports breaking down the entire process. “I’m still not remotely sold the Bears stadium crisis is over, but this entire process from the start has been a joke. Bought a piece of land with no plan. Hired a president who cannot get the job done. No matter the end result, the process to get there has been incompetent.”

To Leming’s credit, the situation isn’t entirely resolved. According to league sources, Indiana has the advantage right now, but the Bears could be lured back into staying in Illinois before a decision is finalized.

PFSN’s Jacob Infante, though, believes he has figured out the Bears’ playbook to a tee. “I’m now convinced every move the Bears make is just a leverage ploy to get a better deal out of the other side. Kevin Warren is the king of declarative statements that actually mean nothing.”

For many folks, though, a huge surprise stems from the growth of the Indiana region into a sports superpower. With the NFL Scouting Combine, professional wrestling, and the All-Star game all coming to Indianapolis in quick succession, it has all circled into the city.

Barstool’s PFT Commenter wrote, “Pretty crazy that the state of Indiana will have twice as many NFL stadiums as New York, and the same number as California.”

Reggie Wayne couldn’t control his shock and said, “So wait… the state of Indiana is going to have two professional what?”

It remains to be seen if a move becomes official in the coming months. But if the initial reaction was any indication, the decision is being universally reviled across the football landscape.
