Quinn Hughes’ Reaction Raises Eyebrows as Rumors Circulate Around Dylan Larkin Trade to Minnesota Wild

The NHL rumor mill has gone into overdrive following reports from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman that Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has requested a trade.

While the news itself sent shockwaves across the league, the conversation has now taken an unexpected turn after Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes appeared to inadvertently add fuel to speculation linking Larkin to the Minnesota Wild.

Quinn Hughes Sparks Buzz Over Dylan Larkin Trade Rumors

The latest wave of speculation began when Hughes liked a social media post discussing Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin’s offseason priorities. The post referenced Guerin’s desire to extend Hughes and acquire a true No. 1 center, while featuring an edited image of Larkin wearing a Wild jersey.

That simple interaction quickly caught the attention of NHL fans, many of whom began wondering whether Hughes knows something others don’t.

Larkin’s reported trade request stems largely from frustration with Detroit’s inability to break through in the standings. Despite spending 11 seasons with the Red Wings and serving as the face of the franchise, he has reached the playoffs just once, back during his rookie season in 2015-16. Detroit currently owns the NHL’s longest active playoff drought at 10 seasons.

Minnesota has emerged as a logical landing spot. The Wild are viewed as a legitimate contender, desperately need a top-line center, and already feature several players with connections to Larkin.

One notable link is Hughes himself. Both Hughes and Larkin are represented by super-agent Pat Brisson, adding another layer of intrigue to the situation.

Fans and media personalities were quick to notice Hughes’ social media activity. Aixing posted, “I’m #noticing that a particular someone is reacting to the Larkin trade news.”

Hockey and sports media personality Jack Jablonski pointed out another interesting detail, writing, “Quinn Hughes sighting. (They also have the same agent).” The Minnesota connection became a popular talking point among Wild fans. The MN State of Hockey channel leaned fully into the speculation, posting, “It’s happening!”

Even ESPN analyst Erik Johnson joined the conversation, jokingly welcoming the Red Wings captain to Minnesota. Johnson wrote, “Welcome to the Minnesota Wild, Dylan Larkin.”

Of course, a social media “like” is far from confirmation of anything. Still, in today’s NHL landscape, there’s no smoke without fire.

What makes Minnesota an especially interesting destination is the fit. Guerin has cap space to work with, a clear need down the middle, and a talented core that includes Hughes, Brock Faber, and Matt Boldy. All three won Olympic gold alongside Larkin while representing Team USA, giving the Wild another potential selling point.

Larkin also holds a full no-trade clause, meaning he will have complete control over where he goes if Detroit ultimately agrees to move him.

For now, there is no sign that a deal is close, but Hughes’ social media activity has only fueled speculation, with Minnesota quickly emerging as a popular potential destination for Larkin.
