Caitlin Clark is no stranger to intense media scrutiny. But the latest off-court drama surrounding the Indiana Fever cornerstone didn’t happen on the hardwood. The face behind Fieldhouse Files, longtime beat reporter Scott Agness, found his season credentials abruptly revoked by the Fever franchise.
This decision came after his reporting that Clark was ruled out against the Portland Fire on May 20, her first missed game of 2026.
Scott Agness Speaks Post-Fallout With Fever Over Caitlin Clark Report
The front office claimed Agness had spread “inaccurate and unsubstantiated information” by tweeting about the 2024 Rookie of the Year’s absence. He reported that her sitting was part of a “strategic management plan” due to a heavy 4-game schedule in 8 days. Head coach Stephanie White cited, “She (Clark) just woke up with some stiffness and some soreness.”
The franchise faced heavy scrutiny and received a WNBA warning for failing to list its star on the previous day’s injury report. This media battle has taken center stage and is escalating.
After the Fever’s PR called out Agness’ report as false and inaccurate, the independent journalist responded, “Fever PR briefly spoke with me before the game to ask about the tweet…However, there was no meeting or further conversation before the decision to revoke my credentialed access was communicated to me. In my response, I told the organization that I stand by my reporting and the intent behind it.”
I want to thank everyone for the support over the last few days. I know many of you have been asking, but I don’t have an update to share.
The work continues.
The Fever are back in action tonight, and I’ll be watching from home. I’ll keep doing the work and showing up.

The Indiana Fever sent Agness an email on June 2, barring him from all future team events. Following the ban, on June 4, Agness broke his silence and updated his subscribers via his social media account.
“I want to thank everyone for the support over the last few days. I know many of you have been asking, but I don’t have an update to share. The work continues. The Fever are back in action tonight, and I’ll be watching from home. I’ll keep doing the work and showing up,” wrote Agnes.
The Professional Basketball Writers Association strongly objected to any journalist losing credentials for reporting.
“The PBWA objects in the strongest possible terms to any reporter losing access for the act of reporting. Any effort to prevent reporters from doing the work of informing the public reflects poorly on any team and league which attempts to do so, and runs contrary to the best interest of all involved, most of all the public,” said the PBWA.
The Fever secured an 83-71 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Thursday night at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark logged 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists in 31 minutes. Yet, despite the strong all-around stats, the 2-time WNBA All-Star’s shooting rhythm remains a work in progress.
After an early exit last season due to a groin injury, Clark’s comeback has been one of the headliners this season. In 8 games, she has averaged 19.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game, though her efficiency sits at 48-of-128 (38.7%) from the floor and 20-of-62 (32.2%) from deep.
With the latest victory, the Fever sit third in the Eastern Conference with a 5-4 record. They face a tough road test on Saturday against the 6-4 New York Liberty at Barclays Center.
