Who is Jakub Menšík’s Girlfriend, Josefina Catino? Inside Their Relationship

Before meeting Menšík, Catino’s path had nothing to do with tennis. Originally from Buenos Aires, she left her hometown and moved to Europe, living in Dublin for two years and later in Valencia, Spain, to pursue a degree in tourism and leisure management. It was while she was working as a waitress in a local Italian restaurant that the Czech Republic’s Davis Cup team walked in as VIP guests.

“There were several players, the whole team was there, and Jakub was there too,” Catino recalled in a recent interview with Czech Radio. “At first, it was a very waitress-and-customer interaction, but there was something… in the air that connected us.”

She had absolutely no connection to the sport at the time and had no idea she was serving a tennis prodigy. During dinner, she even made a tennis racket gesture with her hand while asking him if he actually played the sport. As per Catino, that remains a running joke between the couple today.

Before the team departed, Catino asked Menšík for his Instagram handle, and soon, they started dating. Now together for over a year and a half, she travels with Menšík and frequently shares updates on Instagram.

On Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the French Open, where Menšík defeated Brazil’s Fonseca in straight sets (6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (3)), Catino was also at the Court Philippe-Chatrier.

She had posted before and after the match, with a mirror selfie, re-sharing a video of herself celebrating in the stands, captioning that she only watched half the match because she spent the other half praying. After the match, she posted a view from the stands of Menšík’s on-court interview with an enthusiastic “let’s f** gooooo @mensik.jakub.”

A few days ago, Catino had posted a TikTok video of them dancing on the street.

Interestingly, they communicate mainly through English, but Menšík has learned a fair amount of Spanish, and Catino is actively taking on the difficult task of learning Czech and embracing Czech culture.

As Menšík is acing it on the court, Catino prefers to stay grounded and secure in her own worth.

“I don’t see it from a place of ‘oh, I’m in the shadows, I’m so-and-so’s girlfriend,'” she said. “I know I’m much more than that… I love seeing him there, winning against whoever he beats, lifting all the trophies he can in his career, and I’m going to be there to support him.”

The Menšík vs. Zverev semifinal match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. local time (CEST) / 8:30 a.m. ET on Friday.
