There have been whispers that the Cleveland Browns may be willing to move on from star defensive lineman Myles Garrett, and it has happened.

With June 1 upon us, the focus is on potential moves, such as A.J. Brown’s to the New England Patriots, that may happen afterward, but the trade of the offseason has already occurred.

Browns Trade Away Myles Garrett in a League-Changing Move

With new head coach Todd Monken, the Browns are trying to rebuild the roster, and with Garrett being 30-years old, the reigning DPOY did not fit into that timeline. But a team that could really use a player like Garrett was the Los Angeles Rams, and they got the deal done with Cleveland.

After this move was made, the NFL World had some crazy reactions:

NFL insider Mike Garafolo spoke on Garrett being on a new team for the first time in his pro career, “A career Brown no more.”

Dallas Cowboys insider Nick Harris was shocked by the trade and said, “WOOOOWWWWWW. That is BONKERS.”

NFL insider Ian Rapoport made sure people knew the news was real and that it fits the Rams’ brand of using draft capital for veterans, “This is real. And eye-popping. And on brand for the #Rams.”

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III called the Rams Super Bowl favorites after this trade:

Former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky talked about the Rams making this shocking win-now move, “ALL IN BOOM.”

NFL Insider Tom Pelissero revealed that the Rams actually tried to make a blockbuster trade for star WR A.J. Brown earlier in the season, “The Rams made a run at trading for A.J. Brown earlier in the offseason before breaking off talks. Now, on the day the NFL world circled for a Brown trade, Myles Garrett is the first star dealt and now is headed to L.A.”

NFL analyst Field Yates linked Garrett now being on the Rams to the team’s run with NFL great Aaron Donald on their defense, “The Rams had a decade of Aaron Donald largely being the best defensive player on the planet. Now they trade for the current best defensive player on the planet in Myles Garrett. Not messing around in an effort to win another Super Bowl.”

NFL analyst Trey Wingo looked at this trade from the Rams’ perspective, “Super Bowl or BUST.”

With quarterback Matthew Stafford nearing the end of his career, the Rams want to go all in and win a Super Bowl before his retirement. A move like this matches that goal, and now, Los Angeles has last season’s DPOY and top-ranked player in PFSN’s EDGE Impact Metric.

In this deal, the Rams traded star EDGE Jared Verse, a 2027 first-rounder, and more draft capital, per Albert Breer.

Due to the Super Bowl being the goal, a young player like Verse and those picks do not matter as much, but for the Browns, these can be the pieces that complete their rebuild.

With QB uncertainty plaguing this franchise, having two selections in a highly anticipated 2027 Draft Class could make all the difference if things go wrong this season. Also, getting Verse was a massive win, as the excellent EDGE is only in his third season.

The future is much brighter in Cleveland, but in Los Angeles, a Super Bowl could be on the horizon.
