The Portland Fire handed the Indiana Fever a brutal 100-84 defeat on Saturday night in front of a sold-out Moda Center crowd.
Portland executed a flawless defensive game plan that completely smothered Caitlin Clark from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
Frustrating the Indiana star all evening, the Fire limited her to a brutal 6-point showing and effortlessly controlled the game’s tempo.
Caitlin Clark Endures a Disappointing 6-Point Night As the Portland Fire Frontcourt Dominates
Clark played 22 minutes but never found any offensive rhythm against the physical Portland defense. She recorded 6 assists and 2 rebounds before persistent foul trouble derailed her evening.
Clark finished the game with 5 personal fouls and looked visibly frustrated by the constant defensive pressure applied by Portland. Managing a lingering back injury over the past two weeks, Clark showed evident rust.
The Fire threw multiple bodies at her the moment Clark crossed half-court, completely disrupting her passing lanes and forcing her into difficult situations.
The Fever offense completely stagnated without Clark generating open looks for her teammates. Indiana turned the ball over 17 times and shot 22.7% from beyond the arc.

Social media erupted with reactions after Clark and Indiana’s offensively dismal night, with one user writing, “This player is so pompous and her fans refuse to accept that she is not as good as the hype. CC needs to calm her butt down and listen to coaching. Her primadonna attitude is jarring and now affecting her game!”
“DISGUSTING DISPLAY OF HOOPS FROM THE MVP, CAITLIN CLARK!” one account bluntly remarked.

The Fire built a 29-15 lead in the first quarter and maintained that suffocating pressure for the rest of the matchup.
Megan Gustafson set the tone, overpowering Indiana with a game-high 22 points on a flawless 8-for-8 shooting night to lead the Portland attack.
Carla Leite recorded 18 points and a career-high 12 assists to completely pick apart the struggling Fever defense. Emily Engstler added 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals to secure her own statistical milestone.
Although Indiana found brief flashes of offensive success, it could not generate enough consecutive defensive stops to mount a serious comeback.
The Fever need to fix their perimeter defense and offensive spacing before they return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to host the Atlanta Dream on Thursday.
