Carlos Alcaraz has dropped the bombshell news that he will not be fit in time for the grass-court season. The two-time Wimbledon champion has announced that he will not be competing at the All-England Club this year as he continues his recovery from the wrist injury he suffered at the Barcelona Open.
Tennis Community Stunned As Carlos Alcaraz Pulls Out of Wimbledon
Alcaraz had earlier planned to return to action at the grass-court swing, but announced on Tuesday that he will not be ready to return in time for next month’s Grand Slam. The Spaniard’s absence from the grass-court season left the tennis community stunned, and many shared their thoughts on social media.
“My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon. They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible,” he wrote on social media.
An account chronicling the careers of the ‘Big 3’ called for Djokovic to withdraw from the French Open and focus solely on Wimbledon in his bid to win a 25th Grand Slam title.
“If I’m Djokovic, I’m skipping Roland Garros and putting it all on the line for Wimbledon. I know he won’t, but this is as good of a chance as he’s going to have to get No. 25,” they wrote on X.
Another fan predicted that Jannik Sinner will dominate the next two Grand Slams in Alcaraz’s absence.
“ALCARAZ OUT OF WIMBLEDON! Congrats Jannik Sinner on winning 2 Grand Slams in a row,” they wrote.
Alcaraz fans shared their dejected responses after the news broke.
“No, because what did i do in a past life to be punished like this omg,” one fan wrote.
Another fan claimed that they expected Alcaraz to miss the grass-court season.
“I knew it was coming but it still hurts,” wrote another.
A third fan wished Alcaraz the best in his recovery.
“If he’s not ready then better not force himself to play, hope to see him soon,” they wrote.
With Alcaraz missing Wimbledon, fans will hope to see him back in time for the US Open in August. The 23-year-old, who completed the Career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open this year, is also the reigning US Open champion. However, it remains to be seen what the updated timeline on his return looks like.
