Jannik Sinner will look to continue his historic run and make yet another final when he takes on Daniil Medvedev in the final four of the Italian Open on Friday. The world No. 1 enjoyed a comfortable passage into the semifinals, but Medvedev could present him with his toughest test yet. The Russian does not consider clay to be his best surface, but he has previously won the Italian Open.

Sinner vs Medvedev Head-to-Head Record
Sinner and Medvedev have shared a fierce rivalry, with their head-to-head currently 9-7 in the former’s favor. The Italian has had the upper hand of late, winning the last four and 9 of the last 10 matches between the two players.
Their last meeting came in the Indian Wells Masters final two months ago, which Sinner won after two tie-breakers. This will be their first meeting on clay.
It has been a record-breaking summer so far for Sinner, who is on a run of 27 straight wins on the ATP Tour. He broke the record for most consecutive Masters wins (32) with a 6-2, 6-4 thrashing of Andrey Rublev in the last round, and will now have his sights set on winning his first-ever Italian Open.
Medvedev is also enjoying a strong season, and this will be his fourth semifinal of 2026. Playing on clay is by no means his strong suit, but he has battled past three tricky opponents in Rome.
The 30-year-old overcame Martin Landaluce in the last round, defeating the youngster 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. He was down a break in the deciding set, but fought his way through with 27 winners and an ability to win the key moments.
Sinner vs Medvedev Prediction and Pick
Despite his encouraging run in Rome, Medvedev hasn’t beaten a top-20 player on clay since 2024. Combine that with the form Sinner is in at the moment, and Medvedev will have to deliver a near-perfect performance to even force a deciding set.
Sinner did seem to struggle with a leg issue during his quarterfinal against Rublev on Thursday, and Medvedev will hope to catch him having an off day in the semifinals. The Italian Open is also a title Sinner has never won, and Medvedev has.
But the Italian seems determined to triumph in Rome and become only the second player in history to complete the Career Golden Masters. He is playing at a completely different level than the rest of the ATP Tour at the moment, and this is his match to lose rather than Medvedev’s to win.
Pick – Sinner in straight sets.
