NFL Insider Says More Head Coaches Have Extramarital Affairs Than Expected

It seems that the scandal won’t go away for the time being. New pictures and allegations emerge every week, but this is a Vrabel problem that doesn’t affect the Patriots. And there might be a reason the league doesn’t want to get involved.

Broncos reporter Benjamin Allbright spoke about the situation on Twitter, and according to him, this is nothing new. Allbright noted that many head coaches have alleged affairs, and if this is a fireable offence, then many other jobs would’ve been lost in the league.

“Vrabel will be coaching week 1 unless he decides not to. If an (alleged) affair was enough to get a coach fired, about half the league over the last 20 years would’ve been fired. I’m not gonna sit here and name names, but there are dozens of just the known affairs out there.”

Allbright didn’t mention any names, but the allegations of “half the league over the last 20 years” feel surprising. Vrabel’s case has been the subject of much scrutiny because the other party involved, Russini, is also a strong name in NFL circles. She resigned from The Athletic a few weeks ago as more information about the scandal started to emerge.

Even Patriots players don’t seem truly concerned about the situation. As they reported to the offseason program, quarterback Drake Maye publicly supported Mike Vrabel, saying, “We know he’s dealing with some stuff off the field and out of the coaching world, but we’re here for him, and I know he’s gonna come back.”

As long as this doesn’t affect anything related to the NFL, the league won’t interfere in any personal problems. The news continues to break, with TMZ revealing that the pair had a private encounter on a boat in June 2021, when Russini was pregnant. Vrabel hasn’t publicly spoken since the first night of the draft.
