We’ve reached an interesting point in the scandal involving New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and reporter Dianna Russini. With theories and speculation beginning to die down, NFL fans are still waiting to hear from both parties, and Russini is particularly drawing attention in that regard.
Dianna Russini Could Open a Whole New Chapter in Mike Vrabel Scandal, Says Analyst
Vrabel was recently approached by a photographer at Salt Lake City Airport, where the New England Patriots head coach reportedly bought his wife an apology gift following his alleged romantic scandal with Russini. Russini, meanwhile, last surfaced in the headlines when she resigned from The Athletic amid the controversy.
While Vrabel’s future in the NFL drew plenty of curiosity, Russini has yet to comment on the scandal.
NFL analyst Jonas Knox, for one, believes we might see a whole new side of the controversy when Russini decides to speak out.
“I can’t help but think there’s going to continue to be more of this trickling out,” he said on “Two Pros and a Cup of Joe.” “And I know we had got the bet going on of, ‘By the time that Week 1 of the season comes around, is this still gonna be a storyline?’ I think by Week 1, things would’ve probably quieted down… [But] we haven’t heard from her yet, and when she decides that she does wanna talk… then what?”
After an alleged six-year affair, there is still plenty to explore in the Vrabel-Russini scandal. While both still refuse to comment on the matter, fans will be waiting, at least until the new season kicks off.
“She sort of has all the cards in that, where she could decide she just wants fire off and have a conversation about everything — on 4th of July, or she could wait til Labor Day, or she could do it whenever she wants — and the next thing you, she blows the lid off some stuff, and then we’ve got this the whole scandal back in the headlines again,” Knox added.
Russini faced severe backlash amid the controversy for having spoken disrespectfully about her husband on TV. Meanwhile, curiosity has been circling Vrabel more than criticism. The Patriots are the Super Bowl runners-up from last season, leaving many fans wondering whether the head coach will remain with the organization.

“It’s clear that there’s been some fractured trust between Mike Vrabel and the team,” former player Domanique Foxworth said. “If they [Patriots] don’t perform well, this will be the main reason why — whether it’s true or not. Whether it’s a deterioration of talent or scheme or whatever, no matter what happens, the result of this season, if it goes poorly, we’re all gonna come back to this and say, ‘This was when he lost the team.'”
Vrabel will carry added baggage this upcoming season, trying to get over the hump and win a Super Bowl with the Russini scandal lingering.
