Marta Kostyuk’s Message to Her Husband After Madrid Open Victory

After kicking off her clay-court season by triumphing at the Open de Rouen, Marta Kostyuk carried that momentum into the Madrid Open, beating the likes of Jessica Pegula, Linda Nosková, and Anastasia Potapova to reach the final. She capped off her run with a stellar performance against Mirra Andreeva, securing a 6-3, 7-5 victory to clinch her maiden WTA 1000 title, which she celebrated by doing an impressive backflip on the court.

During the trophy presentation, an emotional Kostyuk reflected on the journey that led to this milestone, taking pride in the consistency she has displayed even in the face of hardships.

“It feels unbelievable to stand here right now. It took me many years to reach this point. And one word I think about right now is consistency. And you know it’s showing up every day. No matter how hard it is, no matter how much you love or hate what you do. And I’ve been doing that really well the past years, I think. So I’m very proud of myself and my team,” Kostyuk said.

The 23-year-old also extended her heartfelt gratitude to her coaching team and her husband, acknowledging their unwavering belief in her. She made special mention of “her love,” George Kyzymenko, who was seen blowing kisses from the stands while holding their pet dog.

“Thank you guys so much for being there for me. I think only we know how much we went through and how many times I wanted to give up, but you kept me afloat and you pushed me to keep going,” she added. “So that’s why I’m here today. Thank you Sandra. Thank you Claudio. Thank you, my love, my husband. Thank you, Chris for coming. Thank you guys.”

Kostyuk and Kyzymenko first met as children while playing tennis at the same club in Ukraine. After losing touch over the years, they reconnected in 2022 and soon went on their first date. Just five months later, in April 2023, Kyzymenko proposed. The couple tied the knot in Cyprus that November, both wearing stunning outfits designed by Wilson, the Ukrainian’s apparel sponsor.
