‘We’re Going To Get Things Rolling’ — Byrum Brown Makes Bold Promise to Auburn After $1.6M Move

In a move that sent shockwaves through the SEC, former South Florida Bulls standout Byrum Brown swapped his jersey for Auburn Tigers orange and blue, backed by a staggering $1.6 million NIL valuation. But as the dust settles on the financial figures, Brown is making it clear that he didn’t come to Auburn for the paycheck. He came to win a trophy.

Appearing in a highly anticipated interview on “Next Up with Adam Breneman,” Brown opened up about his decision to join head coach Alex Golesh’s roster and the high expectations he’s placing on himself and the program.

Auburn QB Byrum Brown Puts the SEC on Alert

Central to his decision was the presence of Golesh, the offensive mastermind who helped mold Brown into a record-breaking dual-threat weapon at South Florida. During the interview, Brown was quick to credit the entire coaching infrastructure Golesh has built at Auburn.

“Coach Golesh and, you know, the staff that he brought, um, you know, the offensive staff and then the defensive staff, too,” Brown told Breneman. “Um, they had a really good defense last year, and I want to be a part of a national championship-caliber team.”

Brown’s assessment isn’t hyperbole. Auburn’s defense was the bedrock of the program in 2025, keeping the Tigers competitive in games where the offense stalled. By joining a team that already possesses a top-30 defensive unit, Brown believes the missing piece of the puzzle has finally arrived: a dynamic, vertical passing game.

Brown specifically pointed to the collective brain trust of Golesh and his assistants as the reason Auburn is poised for a breakout 2026 campaign.

“And I mean, with a great defense and, I mean, Coach Golesh leading the helm, Coach Gordon, um, Coach KB for the offensive side. I mean, I know we’re going to get things rolling, and with a great defense, it’s going to be hard to stop.”

Byrum Brown Opens Up on Relationship With Alex Golesh

In the same interview, Brown admitted, “It means a lot. He came in my redshirt freshman year and competed for the job, and I ended up winning it. He has had the utmost confidence in me, even when I didn’t have any in myself.

“Having him there from day one, his philosophy is, ‘If you earn it, it’s yours.’ It is truly a blessing to have him as my head coach; he is someone who is going to go to work each and every day,” Brown concluded.

As the season approaches, the hype surrounding Brown will only intensify. The SEC is a gauntlet that has humbled many talented transfers, but Brown’s history with Golesh gives him a distinct advantage.
