Jannik Sinner Arrives in Spain Ahead of the Madrid Open

The elite Italian commenced his season with the Australian Open, where he reached the semifinal. He then advanced to the quarterfinal round at the Qatar Open. At the Indian Wells Masters, he surpassed elite players, including Denis Shapovalov, Learner Tien, Alexander Zverev, and others, to take home the title.

At the Miami Open, Sinner defeated Frances Tiafoe, Zverev, and others to clinch the title. Just days later, he displayed his dominance in Monaco. At the Monte-Carlo Country Club, the Italian overcame Ugo Humbert, Tomáš Macháč, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Zverev, and then Carlos Alcaraz, who was the top seed and the defending champion.

Following his title win, Sinner reclaimed the World No. 1 position and also his first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 title. Apart from this, he also became the first man to secure the Sunshine Double, both titles in Indian Wells and Miami, without losing a set.

He has arrived in Madrid ahead of the fourth Masters 1000 tournament of the season. Notably, he shared his thoughts on upcoming plans following his Monte-Carlo Masters win, stating he will make the decision after discussing it with his team. He shared, “I’ll take two or three days off, then I’ll evaluate with my team whether to go to Madrid or not.”

However, the ATP star is likely to decide whether to compete after training at the tournament’s venue, La Caja Mágica, also known as the Manzanares Park Tennis Center. On Sunday, he took the practice court against Thiago Tirante.

Before the tournament begins, the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards will take place at Cibeles Palace, also known as Palacio de Comunicaciones, and will feature the world’s sporting elite. The Athletes’ Awards, which recognize top-notch performances and achievements by athletes throughout the year, honor winners with the elegant Cartier statuette.

The Italian is nominated for the ‘Laureus World Sportsman of the Year’ category along with Alcaraz and other stars from different sports.
