Insider Extinguishes Concern Around Ottawa Senators Star Brady Tkachuk’s Injury

The Ottawa Senators are on a strong run at the right time and secured a playoff spot, but a sudden incident involving their captain created concern inside the lineup. When Brady Tkachuk left the game after an awkward on-ice moment, questions surfaced about how it could affect the team’s depth heading into the postseason.

That concern has now eased, as a fresh update from insider Elliotte Friedman has provided clearer direction on his condition and what it means for Ottawa moving forward.

Elliotte Friedman Eases Fears Around Brady Tkachuk Injury After Islanders Incident

Tkachuk’s status became a talking point after he exited Saturday’s game against the New York Islanders following an unusual sequence during the second period. The Senators’ captain was involved in a minor collision with Ryan Pulock during a line change, and the contact appeared to involve a stick rising near his upper body.

Shortly after, Tkachuk showed signs of imbalance and struggled to stay on his feet, prompting concern from both teammates and observers.

He attempted to return at the start of the third period but lasted only one shift before heading back to the locker room for the remainder of the game. The team later listed him as day-to-day with an undisclosed issue, leaving his availability for the next matchup against the New Jersey Devils uncertain. Given his importance to Ottawa’s lineup, the situation is drawing more attention across the league.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman addressed the incident on Saturday Headlines, providing context that helped calm early worries. He said, “Well, I think we were all watching this today because it was kind of a strange play and we’re all sitting here wondering, what exactly happened with Brady Tkachuk? This happened late in the second period. He tried to come back in the third, but wasn’t able to do so.”

Friedman added that while the sequence looked concerning, the early word suggested the injury was not expected to be serious.

He continued, “It certainly was a little bit scary there. I think we’ll get more clarity or an update tomorrow, but the word we’re getting is he’s still getting tested, but thankfully it’s not expected to be anything significant.”

That update points toward a cautious approach rather than a long-term absence, especially with Ottawa already securing its playoff position.

Tkachuk has dealt with multiple injuries this season, including a thumb issue that required surgery and kept him out for an extended stretch. There have also been reports of lingering neck tightness and fatigue, which adds context to the team’s careful handling of his current condition.

Ottawa enters its next game with a 43-27-10 record and 96 points, sitting firmly in the playoff picture. With the postseason set to begin soon, the focus will be on ensuring Tkachuk is fully fit rather than rushing him back.
