Although Alexander Bublik is still in contention at the Monte-Carlo Masters, he nearly landed himself in trouble off the court. The Russian-born Kazakh recently joked that teaching his three-year-old son, Vasily, isn’t easy, suggesting the child takes after his mother, Tatiyana Bublik. However, the world No. 11 later reconsidered and hinted at removing that remark from the interview.
Alexander Bublik’s Joke on Son Taking After Wife Prompts Hilarious Backtrack
Despite being a key supporter of her husband, Tatiyana Bublik has largely stayed out of the spotlight. Her relationship with the Kazakh star only became public in 2021, when he casually revealed during an interview that he was already married. The specifics regarding how and when they met, as well as the timeline of their relationship leading up to marriage, have not been disclosed.
However, Tatiyana has occasionally been seen supporting Alexander Bublik from the stands, notably during his title runs at the 2023 Terra Wortmann Open and the Gstaad Open last year. A particularly special chapter in their lives began when the couple welcomed their son, Vasily, on August 16, 2022.
Bublik, currently competing at the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters, recently told Tennis Channel’s Prakash Amritraj that his family could not travel to Monaco after falling ill. He added he will reunite with them in Munich next week.
“They are not here. They just got sick immediately right before flying out. So, I flew on second and they supposed to be flying on fourth and they got sick. So, but they’re coming next week in Munich. They’re going to take the flight directly to Munich and we going to meet there,” he said.
When asked about his son’s growth, Alexander Bublik admitted it hasn’t been easy. He noted that while teaching Vasily can feel like a “fun game,” the youngster’s strong opinions often make it challenging, jokingly adding that he seems to take after Tatiyana Bublik.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s not easy. I mean, it’s it’s a fun game, to teach him something. He is nearly four. So it’s not easy, you know, he has his opinions. You know, he has the character of his mother which is not helping. She is gonna hear this. It’s not helping, but I mean, it’s not that easy as me as we all know, the easiest guy on the tour. So, yeah it’s not helping. So, let’s sum it up, guys. I got to go,” he added.

But as the interview was about to end, Bublik had realized that he had gone too far. Despite this, he joked, “We got to cut the part of my wife, man. No, we should not. We should not keep it. And we keep me and we keep my hesitation now. It makes it even funnier.”
Bublik started his Monte-Carlo campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gaël Monfils and followed it up by ousting Jiri Lehecka 6-2, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals. The next challenge, however, would be far from easy, as the Kazakh faces world No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz. Interestingly, it’ll also be their maiden encounter on the ATP tour.
