LeBron James Claims He Doesn’t Even Like Ohio

Rumors have tied James to a potential return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers recently acquired James Harden and are built to win right now. Fans believed a homecoming was perfect for him, but those dreams might be completely dead based on his latest press conference.

James sparked a debate on the “Bob Does Sports” YouTube channel by suggesting that the Memphis Grizzlies relocate to Nashville. The controversy spilled over into the Lakers practice facility on Saturday. Reporters asked the NBA legend about the backlash from his comments. He doubled down on his stance and brought his hometown into the mix.

“I’m 41 years old. There’s two cities I do not like playing in right now. That’s Milwaukee, and that’s Memphis,” James said. “What is your problem with that? I don’t like going home either, sh*t. And I’m from there!”

That blunt statement completely changes the calculus for his impending free agency. The Lakers are reportedly shifting their focus toward building around Luka Dončić going forward. That leaves the veteran forward looking for a new situation.

Cleveland appeared to be the sentimental favorite for his final act. His public admission about disliking his home state complicates that narrative. His agent confirmed the sentiment as well.

Rich Paul appeared on the “Game Over” podcast with Max Kellerman to discuss the situation. The Klutch Sports CEO did not walk back his most famous client’s comments. He took things a step further.

“Guess where else LeBron don’t want to be? AKRON! He’s from there! He don’t want to be there, he just outgrew it, which is fine,” Paul said.

The idea of a fairy tale ending in Northeast Ohio may be completely off the table. The superstar forward has spent the last eight years enjoying Southern California’s lifestyle.

Moving back to the Cleveland market does not seem to appeal to him. He has nothing left to prove to the franchise that drafted him No. 1 overall back in 2003. He delivered a championship to the city in 2016 and considers that debt fully paid.

The focus now shifts to other contenders. Teams with salary cap space will certainly make a strong push for his services. He still produces at an elite level despite his advancing age. The veteran forward is averaging 20.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 6.0 rebounds on 51.1% shooting from the field this season.

Also, he remains a massive draw for television ratings and merchandise sales. Front offices will have to carefully consider his geographical preferences before making a contract offer.

The superstar wants to compete for a fifth championship ring, but he clearly has some preferences when it comes to the city he’ll be living in as well. He knows exactly what he wants and is no longer afraid to say it publicly. His upcoming free agency period will be absolutely fascinating to watch.
