Speculation around Brady Tkachuk’s future in Ottawa is heating up again, and this time, the conversation centers on comments made by his father, Keith Tkachuk. What initially sounded like a blunt critique of the state of the league has now sparked debate over whether there’s a deeper message behind the remarks.
Does Keith Tkachuk Want Brady Tkachuk to Leave the Senators?
The discussion began when Keith Tkachuk appeared on The Wingmen podcast and openly criticized what he sees as a softer era of the NHL. He pointed to players missing games for rest or minor injuries, contrasting it with older generations that prided themselves on toughness.
The timing of the comments raised eyebrows, especially after Linus Ullmark sat out a key game against the Tampa Bay Lightning to rest up, and then allowed five goals in his return against the Florida Panthers.
After Keith Tkachuk’s abrasive take, some observers quickly connected the dots to the Ottawa Senators, but Brady Tkachuk moved to calm things down. “I don’t know how that got twisted and I have to talk about it now, but I thought it was clear as day. He was talking about the Florida Panthers,” Brady said.
Brady emphasized he respects his father’s opinions but made it clear the focus in Ottawa remains on winning games during their playoff push.
However, NHL insider Sid Seixeiro believes there’s more beneath the surface. “Keith Kachuk does not give a damn if his kid is in that market much longer,” Seixeiro said.
He argued that family discussions could already be happening behind the scenes. He also pointed out that Keith’s comments didn’t come out of nowhere, implying they could reflect a broader preference for Brady to play elsewhere.
“Keith Kachuk’s not coming out with that from a vacuum. Keith Kachuk wants nothing to do with that market and wants his son to have nothing to do with that market. I think in a way this is good for Brady, it gives him more air cover. You can blame other people in the family,” Seixeiro explained.
The insider further noted that Brady having to clarify his father’s statements created another awkward moment with the media. He compared it to an earlier uncomfortable exchange tied to trade rumors, suggesting repeated situations like this can create tension between a player and organization. According to Seixeiro, such dynamics often have a “shelf life.”
Despite the noise, the on-ice situation remains positive for Ottawa. The Senators currently hold the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference and are pushing toward a postseason berth.
