Eagles Urged To Draft 24-TD WR as A.J. Brown’s Potential Replacement Amid Growing Trade Speculation

With constant drama surrounding A.J. Brown's future, the Eagles could be forced to target Omar Cooper Jr. in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The noise surrounding A.J. Brown’s future in Philadelphia is getting deafening. Trade rumors continue to shadow the All-Pro receiver, forcing the Eagles to heavily evaluate their perimeter options ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. The looming reality of an offense without Brown makes finding a plug-and-play receiver an urgent priority.

Omar Cooper Jr. Is a Reliable Target for the Eagles’ Offense

The Athletic draft analyst Scott Dochterman sees a clear, immediate solution for Philadelphia in former Indiana Hoosiers standout Omar Cooper Jr.

“The constant drama swirling about A.J. Brown’s situation leads one to believe he’s not long for Philadelphia,” Dochterman noted. “Whenever he leaves, the Eagles will need a high-level replacement to play alongside DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert. Cooper fits everything Philly desires — and needs — at receiver.”

Cooper wrapped up his four-year career with the Hoosiers, logging 115 receptions for 1,798 receiving yards. He proved to be a highly consistent scoring threat, finding the end zone 24 total times. He racked up 22 touchdowns through the air and added 2 scores on the ground.

His 2025 campaign was the real breakout. Cooper secured 69 catches for 937 yards and a career-high 13 receiving touchdowns, serving as a vital weapon during Indiana’s run to a national championship. He finished the 2025 season as the 10th overall player in PFSN’s CFB WR Impact Metrics with an 83.0 score along with a B- grade.

“Cooper (6 feet, 196 pounds) is compact and one of the draft’s top route runners,” Dochterman added. “He also might be this class’ best pure slot receiver (he played 83.3 percent of his snaps last season in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus).”

How the Eagles Are Preparing for Life After A.J. Brown

Replacing a boundary dominator like Brown is rarely a simple one-to-one swap. Brown dictates defensive coverages with overwhelming size and sheer force at the catch point. Cooper wins in a different weight class, relying on leverage, route precision, and suddenness after the catch.

That stylistic shift shouldn’t deter the Eagles. A rebuilt passing attack featuring Smith’s elite perimeter separation, Goedert’s seam-busting size, and Cooper’s interior polish would create a highly complementary trio for quarterback Jalen Hurts. It allows the offense to operate efficiently without forcing the ball into double coverage.

“Cooper isn’t as physical as Brown, but he’s a tough dude, which will endear him to Eagles fans,” Dochterman explained. “I’m sure plenty of them will remember Cooper’s incredible game-winning catch against Penn State.”

That highlight-reel, toe-tap touchdown against the Nittany Lions proved Cooper can deliver in high-leverage moments. He absorbs contact across the middle of the field and possesses the elite body control necessary to secure passes in heavily congested areas.

If the front office ultimately decides to move on from Brown, drafting a polished technician like Cooper ensures the Eagles won’t take a massive step backward.
