Lamar Jackson Publicly Responds to Jadeveon Clowney’s Desire to Return to the Ravens

Lamar Jackson responded when asked about the reunion with Jadeveon Clowney after the free agent edge rusher pitched a return to Baltimore.

Earlier today, Lamar Jackson was asked by a fan on social media whether he’d welcome a Jadeveon Clowney reunion in Baltimore.

The exchange came hours after Clowney publicly expressed his interest in rejoining the Ravens. The 33-year-old edge rusher told Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 that he’d be open to returning to Baltimore after his lone season there in 2023 produced his best statistical campaign.

Lamar Jackson Wants Jadeveon Clowney Back on Ravens

Jackson’s response to the fan asking whether he wanted Clowney back was succinct as he wrote “Definitely” on X.

The timing of Clowney’s availability is notable. The Ravens spent early March chasing Maxx Crosby, agreeing to send two first-round picks to Las Vegas before backing out of the deal after Crosby failed his physical. Concerns about a degenerative knee issue following his January meniscus surgery ended what would have been the biggest trade in franchise history.

Baltimore pivoted within hours, signing Trey Hendrickson to a four-year, $112 million contract. The former Bengals star brings elite pass-rush production, having led the league with 17.5 sacks in 2024.

But the Ravens still lack proven depth behind him. Tavius Robinson, 2025 second-round pick Mike Green, and 2024 third-rounder Adisa Isaac are the primary complements to Hendrickson on the current roster, but Clowney would change that equation.

“They got a lot of good guys that I can relate to in that locker room,” Clowney said. “I’ll definitely be open to going back to Baltimore, playing with Lamar Jackson now. It was a great time for me.”

In 2023, he played all 17 regular-season games for the only time in his career, tying his career high with 9.5 sacks and adding a sack in the AFC Championship Game loss to Kansas City. He signed for just $2.5 million that summer and earned another $2 million in incentives.

According to PFSN’s EDGE Impact Metric, Clowney finished the 2023 NFL season as the 14th-ranked player at his position with an impact score of 84.9, which is his highest mark in the past five seasons.

How Clowney and Trey Hendrickson Would Attack From Different Angles

What makes Clowney appealing isn’t just his pass-rush ability. He’s always been an elite run defender, something Hendrickson has struggled with throughout his career.

Hendrickson isn’t a key asset in run defense, but Clowney offers versatility that enables new head coach Jesse Minter to use multiple looks without losing gap integrity.

Clowney proved he still has juice left. After sitting on the market until mid-September, he signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with Dallas and recorded 8.5 sacks in 13 games, emerging as one of the few bright spots on a porous Cowboys defense. Dallas, however, doesn’t see him as a fit in new defensive coordinator Christian Parker’s scheme.

The Ravens have roughly $29 million in cap space remaining, plenty to bring Clowney back on another affordable one-year deal. He’s never commanded top-dollar contracts despite being the first overall pick in 2014, mostly signing prove-it deals that let him hit free agency each year.

Jackson’s public endorsement won’t guarantee a signing. But when your franchise quarterback publicly lobbies for a player, front offices tend to listen. The Ravens need edge depth, and Clowney needs a contender; the fit worked once before, and it might be time for them to reunite again.
