Stephen Curry Offers Positive Update on ‘Unpredictable’ Knee Injury Ahead Of Potential Return

Stephen Curry feels confident about his return after five-on-five scrimmage but remains uncertain about how his knee will respond when he plays.

Stephen Curry remains hopeful about his much-anticipated return but has also expressed uncertainty over how his knee will respond when he rejoins the Golden State Warriors. The veteran has been off the court since January after sustaining an injury during a warm-up that resulted in pain and swelling.

Although he attempted multiple comebacks, nothing went as planned because he did not feel completely pain-free until he received the green light to participate in scrimmages.

Stephen Curry Shares a Positive Health Update, but Uncertainty Remains

Curry averaged 24 points and six assists per game in the 2024-25 season, still an elite scorer, though not like his prime years. He was also shining through from the three-point range and earned an All-Star selection. The 38-year-old aimed for a repeat in 2025-26, but fate didn’t favor him, sidelining him just weeks into the season.

He has been a mainstay on the bench, as the Warriors played through the season and locked a spot in the Play-In tournament, likely to make a playoff run as well.

On a good note, Curry has been cleared to play in a five-on-five scrimmage, and after the outing, he shared that he felt confident and has been slowly working his way toward consistency, but he expressed uncertainty about how his knee will feel once he resumes.

“It felt great. I’m checking the boxes. But with this, it’s always unpredictable because I don’t know how the knee will respond, because it hasn’t responded well in the past attempts to get to this five-on-five level. I’m right where I need to be for right now, and I’m hoping that it continues until the weekend,” he said.

Curry will miss the Warriors’ games against the San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he has a strong chance of making a comeback in the following home game against the Houston Rockets.

The four-time NBA champion focused on regaining his rhythm in Los Angeles during the All-Star weekend but did not show much progress. He also informed the medical staff that his first practice back could not be with the team, as he did not feel fully healthy.

As a result, the Warriors’ leading medical decision-maker, Rick Celebrini, opted for individual training, limiting him to the weight room.

Draymond Green, one of the key players of the Warriors and a four-time NBA champion, revealed that Curry has been working as hard as possible to return to the court soon. Whether there is one game left in the season or five, the veteran is eager to come back and will do so.

The 38-year-old has averaged 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game in the 2025–26 season until the January 30 game against the Detroit Pistons.
