Brady Tkachuk Criticized as Ottawa Senators’ Playoff Chances Take Severe Hit in 6-3 Loss to Panthers

Brady Tkachuk faces heavy criticism as the Ottawa Senators' 6-3 loss to the Panthers severely hurts their playoff chances.

The Ottawa Senators are running out of time, and their latest loss may have dealt a serious blow to their postseason hopes. A 6-3 defeat to the Florida Panthers marked Ottawa’s third straight loss, leaving them 2 points out of a wild-card spot with just 8 games remaining.

As the pressure mounts, captain Brady Tkachuk has found himself at the center of growing criticism.

Why Senators Captain Brady Tkachuk Faces Backlash as Playoff Hopes Fade

The Ottawa Senators came into the game fully aware of what was on the line. A regulation victory would have pushed their playoff odds to 61.8%, but a loss in regulation would drop them to 36.3%. After falling short, Ottawa now finds itself at that lower figure, a significant setback at a crucial point in the season.

The Florida Panthers wasted no time taking control, erupting for 5 goals in the first period. Matthew Tkachuk paced the offense with a 4-point performance, while Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark was pulled after surrendering 5 goals on 16 shots. Despite dealing with injuries, Florida also improved to 3-0 against Ottawa this season.

Compounding the frustration, Brady Tkachuk finished without a point and has now been held scoreless in all 3 meetings against the Panthers this year.

What drew the most criticism wasn’t just the scoreline; it was the perceived lack of urgency. Ottawa failed to generate momentum even when opportunities presented themselves.

A 5-minute power play produced little offensive-zone pressure, and a late 6-on-3 advantage didn’t result in a single shot on goal. The Senators eventually skated off with minimal emotion, further fueling frustration among analysts and fans.

Reactions quickly followed. The Everyday Sens account criticized the captain’s demeanor: “I’m usually cool with it but it pisses me off to see Brady just laughing it up with his brother all night… Sens should be all over Florida with how important these points are. Show a bit of fight. Team has gone so soft.”

Florida Panthers radio anchor Kevin Rogers also pointed out the contrast between the Tkachuk brothers: “Matthew Tkachuk had 4 points tonight. Brady Tkachuk hasn’t scored a point in 3 games against the Panthers this season.”

Another analyst, Jammy, added a sarcastic jab: “Brady Tkachuk looks tired from all those autographs he had to sign yesterday (for profit).”

The criticism intensified after a physical sequence involving Carter Yakemchuk, who needed help leaving the ice following a high elbow from Noah Gregor. The Senators and their captain didn’t respond with the expected intensity.

“Brady Tkachuk… what happened to you, man?? Where’s the dude who would challenge the entire team for a hit like that? Instead he’s whiffing on shots and thinking about where to get beers with his brother tonight,” Everyday Sens wrote again.

With just 8 games remaining, the margin for error is shrinking. The Senators will try to regroup quickly ahead of their game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.
