Lakers Superstar Luka Dončić Achieves What No Other Player Has Done During Sensational March Run

Luka Dončić achieves a historic milestone during a sensational March run that solidifies his case in the MVP race this season.

Luka Dončić has had a magical season so far. He is the league’s leading scorer, averaging 33.7 points, and is also among the top candidates for the NBA MVP award this season.

Dončić has arguably turned the Los Angeles Lakers into an elite Western Conference team again, solidifying his case for MVP this year. The Slovenian star recently set a new record after a historic month.

Luka Dončić Makes NBA History with Historic March

According to a recent report by StatMuse, Dončić is the first player in NBA history to notch 500+ points, 35+ steals, and 50+ 3-point shots in a single month. Not even the GOATs like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, or Kobe Bryant have achieved this historical feat.

Looking at Dončić’s average this March, he’s been a force to be reckoned with. In the 15 games he’s played this month, Dončić averaged 37.2 points, 7.1 assists, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.3 steals.

Despite his jaw-dropping efforts in March, he is currently in fourth place in the NBA MVP race, behind Nikola Jokić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Victor Wembanyama.

Many argue that Dončić is deserving of the MVP this season simply because of how he turned the Lakers into an elite team again after years of struggling.

The Lakers are currently in third place in the Western Conference with a 49-26 record. With only seven games remaining in their regular season, they’re on the verge of securing the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

While the Lakers look like a new and improved team, some critics feel like Dončić shouldn’t win the MVP this season. Sports journalist Rachel Nichols recently explained why Dončić isn’t worthy of the award.

Nichols pointed out how the Slovenian star lacks defense in his bag of tricks. While she can’t deny how Dončić is one of the most prolific scorers in the league right now, the MVP isn’t based on offensive prowess alone.

“Is he the top contender for MVP right now? No, he is not,” Nichols said. “Is it because you do have to play both sides of the ball for all eight months of the season? Yes, it is.”

“I mean, he has definitely been improving. Luka is not the defensive liability that people think he is once he gets to the playoffs… It is a full-season award, and it is for both sides of the ball. So, am I going to vote him my number one for MVP? No,” she added.

While the skepticism around the six-time All-Star’s MVP campaign persists, Dončić still has another week or two to climb up the ladder in the NBA MVP race.
