Danielle Collins Jokes She Can’t Match Anna Kalinskaya’s ‘Natural Beauty’ Without Help

Danielle Collins playfully jokes that she "needs help" with glam unlike the natural beauty of Anna Kalinskaya.

Danielle Collins and Anna Kalinskaya stole the show with their playful banter after the Russian’s opening win at the Charleston Open. Following a first-round bye, Kalinskaya made a strong start to her clay-court season by claiming a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Viktoriya Tomova in the second round. She later joined Collins and Steve Weissman at the Tennis Channel desk to break down her performance.

Danielle Collins Proposes “Girl’s Day” Plan With Anna Kalinskaya

As she arrived for the interview, Anna Kalinskaya was instantly drawn to Danielle Collins’ on-air look, admitting she wished she had the same glam. Collins, however, playfully brushed it off, joking that while Kalinskaya was a “natural beauty,” she needed a little help from makeup herself. Nevertheless, the American suggested a girls’ day out so they could enjoy getting their hair and makeup done together.

“I want this glam!” Kalinskaya said.

“You’re a natural beauty. Some of us weren’t born with it, you know, so you need a little help,” Danielle Collins responded. “We can do it together. We’ll have a girl’s day.”

During the interview, Kalinskaya also opened up about her relationship with clay, humorously describing it as a “situationship.” The 27-year-old admitted to preferring both hard courts and grass, adding that the clay swing was the most difficult stretch of the season for her.

“A situationship. Yeah, I think I prefer hardcourt in general, even maybe grass. But every year I think I’m more comfortable on clay and maybe just more experienced on clay every year. But it’s definitely something I need to improve. And it’s the most challenging time of the season for me,” she said.

Anna Kalinskaya Eyes Redemption in Charleston Open 3R

When Collins questioned Kalinskaya on who she’d like to face in the third round between Paula Badosa and Maria Sakkari, the Russian made it clear that she had no preference. Still chasing her first win against both, she said she’d happily vie for redemption against either player.

“I actually don’t care. It’s good to take your revenge from any,” she said. “I have to be focused on myself and change the strategy from the last time, because last time it didn’t work against them.”

If Anna Kalinskaya triumphs over the winner of the match between Badosa and Sakkari, she will advance to the quarterfinals of the Charleston Open, where she could meet Iva Jovic or Sofia Kenin.
