NHL Rumors: Penguins Brass ‘Furious’ With NHL Amid Rumors of Conspiracy Against Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Penguins brass is "furious" with the NHL amid conspiracy rumors regarding recent controversial officiating calls.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have looked good this season and are still in the playoff race, but injuries are becoming a hurdle for them. They have faced setbacks in the previous three years, missing the playoffs. But this season, they have the opportunity to head into the postseason with a veteran core led by Sidney Crosby.

With such a possibility comes greater attention to each game, especially to referee calls. Recent games have highlighted several decisions that have not favored them. This has now prompted a broader discussion about officiating and its influence on their outcomes.

Why the Pittsburgh Penguins Are Upset Over Officiating Calls During Their Playoff Push

The Pittsburgh Penguins have faced multiple controversial calls in recent games, especially around goaltender interference reviews. These calls have gone against them at a time of urgency, including one against the Winnipeg Jets, where a challenged goal involving contact with goaltender Arturs Silovs was allowed to stand. Similar situations have continued, creating a pattern that has raised concern within the organization.

Another controversial moment came in a game against the Dallas Stars. There was a missed call when Erik Karlsson had his stick knocked away in front of the referee. Karlsson tried to point it out, but the referee just ignored the play.

These incidents have added to a growing list of decisions that have gone against Pittsburgh during an important part of the season.

Penguins insider Josh Yohe addressed the situation, making it clear that, while there is no confirmed bias, the trend has become difficult to ignore.

He wrote, “No, I don’t think there is an NHL conspiracy against the Penguins. However, so many blatant, botched calls have gone against them recently that it’s legitimately become a story. Couple it with 13 of 14 goalie interference challenges going against them. Organization is furious.”

Despite these issues, Pittsburgh remains in a strong position in the standings. The team sits third in the division with 88 points and is tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets, keeping them in a playoff spot.

Sidney Crosby continues to lead the group offensively, while Karlsson has played an important role from the blue line, primarily in March. Improved special teams have also helped them handle close games better than last season.

At the same time, the team has dealt with other challenges that have affected performance. Injuries to Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have disrupted the lineup, while defensive issues have led to a stretch where the team allowed 32 goals in seven games. The penalty kill has also struggled in recent games, adding more pressure during an already tight race.

With important games against the New York Islanders and the Detroit Red Wings coming up, the Penguins will look to stay focused on results. At the same time, they will have to manage the ongoing concerns around officiating decisions.
