It turned into a memorable weekend for Italian sport, with Jannik Sinner headlining the celebrations by capturing the Miami Open and completing the Sunshine Double. Adding to the joy, Kimi Antonelli delivered in Formula One, securing a second straight win at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Sinner even acknowledged Antonelli’s triumph, leaving a message on the camera after his victory over Jiří Lehečka.

Sinner was flawless behind his first serve in the opening set, winning all 16 points with authority. He consistently dictated forehand exchanges and pushed Lehečka into an uncomfortable position, in which he had to make contact above his shoulders. Although Lehečka showed resistance at the net, he couldn’t overcome Sinner’s control during the rallies.
Thus, with the help of a composed performance, Sinner eased past Lehečka 6-4, 6-4 to become the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to complete the Sunshine Double (winning the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open in the same season).
Interestingly, Sinner’s Miami Open triumph came alongside 19-year-old F1 sensation Antonelli’s victory at the Japanese Grand Prix, where he finished a commanding 13.7 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri.
After his win over Lehečka, Sinner celebrated the moment by sending a heartfelt message to his fellow Italians on camera: “Bez. Kimi. Italia,” he wrote.

Moreover, Sinner also recalled the conversation he had with the F1 star a night earlier during his post-match interview on Tennis Channel.
Sinner joked about sending Antonelli a “good luck” message, highlighting an amazing weekend for Italians in sports. He also looked ahead to Italy’s tough football match against Bosnia on Tuesday, expressing hope and excitement for the game.

“It’s funny. I sent him obviously a message, and it was like, ‘Good luck to you as well.’ So we follow each other, and the funny thing is that Moto GP and Italian One, Marco. So it has been an amazing weekend for us, Italians. I am happy to be part of this group. We have a very important game now, of course football, on Tuesday. We are going to really hope that this goes in our way, but we will play against Bosnia,” he said.
This season, Sinner has built an impressive 19-2 win-loss record, yet he remains 1,190 points behind Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Live Rankings. Now it remains to be seen how the World No. 2 carries the momentum into the upcoming clay-court swing, leading up to the second Grand Slam of the season, the French Open.
