Andrea Petkovic Labels Jannik Sinner’s Lopsided Miami Final Odds ‘Harsh’ but ‘Fair’

Analyst Andrea Petkovic describes Jannik Sinner's lopsided Miami Open final odds against Jiří Lehečka as harsh but fair.

Former pro turned analyst Andrea Petkovic did not shy away from the lopsided narrative heading into the Miami Open final, describing the betting odds between Jannik Sinner and Jiří Lehečka as “harsh but fair.” With Sinner installed as an overwhelming favorite after a near-flawless run through the draw, Petkovic acknowledged the imbalance while also pointing to the Italian’s recent form as justification.

How Jannik Sinner and Jiří Lehečka Reached the Miami Open Final

Sinner, the World No. 2, arrived in Miami fresh off a title run at Indian Wells and has carried that momentum seamlessly into South Florida. He has not dropped a set en route to the final, opening with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Damir Dzumhur before dispatching Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-4. His toughest test came against Alex Michelsen, where he erased a 2-5 deficit in the second set to win 7-5, 7-6(4).

From there, Sinner returned to dominant form, crushing Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 6-2 and then defeating third seed Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) to book his place in the final as he chases the coveted “Sunshine Double.”

Across the net, Lehečka has produced the best Masters 1000 run of his career. The Czech began with a 6-2, 7-5 win over French wild card Moise Kouame, followed by a 6-3, 7-6(6) victory against Ethan Quinn.

He stunned sixth seed Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2 in the Round of 16, edged past qualifier Martin Landaluce 7-6(1), 7-5 in the quarterfinals, and then dominated 28th seed Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals to reach his first Masters 1000 final.

Andrea Petkovic Previews Jannik Sinner vs. Jiří Lehečka at the Miami Open

Speaking during a Tennis Channel segment that highlighted Sinner as a 94% favorite with odds of -1600 compared to Lehečka’s +950, Petkovic broke down the matchup with tactical insight. “I think Lehečka has only got one choice, and that is to try and find a way to the net. He’s not going to win this match from the baseline, but if he plays like he did yesterday, very aggressively, very front facing, I think this is maybe a little harsh,” she said.

Petkovic then balanced her assessment by pointing to Sinner’s red-hot form, adding, “However, having watched Jannik Sinner in the last two weeks, the odds seem fair. But then again, who is the last guy he lost to? Jakub Menšík [in Doha], a Czech man who has a similar style to Lehečka.”

Expanding further, Petkovic noted a potential tactical wrinkle: “The only thing about Lehečka I have seen is that if somebody changes it up and can play a few lower slices and change the rhythm, as you’re seeing with many Czech players, that can sometimes throw them off. But the way he played in the semifinal was absolutely outstanding.”

This upcoming clash will mark the fifth meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Sinner firmly in control of the rivalry so far, having won all four of their previous encounters and establishing a commanding 4-0 advantage in their head-to-head record.
