The NFL Draft, one of the most exciting times of the year for football fans, is less than one month away, and the excitement continues to build. While free agency and trades can help turn a pretender into a contender, the draft can completely reshape a franchise and build long-term success. While some prospects, such as quarterback Fernando Mendoza, have generally universal appeal, others, such as Jordyn Tyson, remain a bit more polarizing.
Why NFL Scouts Are Not Sold on Jordyn Tyson Ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft
Some fanbases may not be excited when their team drafts a highly touted lineman, preferring more of an offensive splash; these bold moves come with a bit of risk. When it comes to Arizona State’s star wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, it appears that some scouts have their doubts about him being a franchise-altering addition to a team’s passing attack.
In an article by Bob McGinn, several anonymous NFL scouts shared their concerns over Tyson, with some not exactly sold on him being a first-round talent. Even though some mock drafts have Tyson going as early as eighth overall to the New Orleans Saints, the 21-year-old remains a polarizing figure as the 2026 NFL Draft rapidly approaches.

“There’s nothing about him that’s exceptional. All this first-round talk, I don’t see it. To me, to be in the first round you’ve got to have something special about you. There’s nothing physically about him – size, speed, anything – that sticks out. And he’s been hurt. He was an enigma to me,” one scout said of Tyson.
Even though separate hamstring injuries forced Tyson to miss four games during the 2025 season, the wide receiver led his team with 61 receptions, racking up 711 yards and 8 touchdowns over 9 games with Arizona State. Thanks to this performance, Tyson earned third-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-Big 12 honors.
Some scouts are still not sure if he is worth a first-round pick, with one scout questioning his toughness. “It’s nuts. He’s just not a tough dude. He doesn’t make catches when bodies are around him. Very inconsistent,” they said of Jordyn Tyson.
Tyson sits at No. 7 overall in the PFSN Analyst Rankings and No. 1 among wide receivers in the class. Some teams that have been linked to Tyson in various mock drafts include the aforementioned New Orleans Saints, the New York Jets, and even the Kansas City Chiefs.
