Oilers Star Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Proud Member of Exclusive Club Featuring Wayne Gretzky, Connor McDavid

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins joined an exclusive Edmonton Oilers scoring club alongside Wayne Gretzky after recording his 800th point.

It was another meaningful night for the Edmonton Oilers as one of their longest-serving players quietly added to his growing résumé. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins continues to climb the franchise ladder, strengthening his standing among Edmonton’s all-time greats.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Reaches 800 Career Points Milestone for Oilers

Nugent-Hopkins picked up a secondary assist on a goal by Jack Roslovic during Edmonton’s 5-2 win over the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday night. The helper marked the 800th point of his NHL career.

He reached the milestone in his 1,021st game, compiling 289 goals and 511 assists along the way. With that, Nugent-Hopkins now sits seventh on the franchise’s all-time scoring list. Ahead of him are some of the biggest names in Oilers history: Wayne Gretzky (1,669), Connor McDavid (1,200), Leon Draisaitl (1,053), Jari Kurri (1,043), Mark Messier (1,034), and Glenn Anderson (906).

Earlier this year, Nugent-Hopkins also hit another major milestone, skating in his 1,000th career game, all with Edmonton. He became the first player in franchise history to play his first 1,000 NHL games exclusively for the Oilers. He now trails Kevin Lowe by just 16 games for the team’s all-time record in appearances.

The night also featured a milestone for McDavid. He became the fifth player in Oilers history to score 400 career goals. He also joined Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as the third-fastest player to reach 1,200 career points, further highlighting how special this era has been for Edmonton fans.

With Draisaitl currently sidelined due to injury, Nugent-Hopkins has shifted back to center, helping stabilize the top six. His versatility and experience have been key for Edmonton as they navigate a tightly contested playoff race.

Edmonton currently sits second in the Pacific Division with a 35-28-9 record and 79 points. Compared to the tighter race in the Eastern Conference, the Pacific Division playoff picture has been more forgiving, something even McDavid referred to as a “pillow fight.”

Nugent-Hopkins acknowledged the situation before Tuesday’s game, noting the team’s fortunate position in a forgiving division. “Obviously, we’ve been kind of fortunate in that sense this year, but it’s out of our control and we just want to kind of try to rack up as many points as we possibly can. But yeah, it’s kind of been a weird year for our division,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of accumulating points and creating separation down the stretch.

The Edmonton Oilers will now shift their attention to Thursday’s clash with the Vegas Golden Knights as they look to carry their momentum forward.
