The Green Bay Packers have been relatively inactive in the offseason so far. The team has added a couple of solid veterans in free agent defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and linebacker Zaire Franklin via trade, but not much else.
The team has lost players like Quay Walker and Kingsley Enagbare while trading away Rashan Gary. As a result, the Packers have a serious need at edge rusher opposite star Micah Parsons.
Why the Packers Should Trade for Giants Edge Rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux
While Parsons is one of the best pass-rushers in the league, he suffered a torn ACL late in the 2025 season and may not be ready for the start of the 2026 season.
Even if Parsons gets healthy sooner, the team still needs more help on the edge. Walker, Enagbare, and Gary combined for 14.5 sacks in 2025, and nobody still on the roster other than Parsons had more than 4 sacks last year.
As a result, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton believes the Packers should call up the New York Giants and trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux is a former first-round pick who has had a couple of productive seasons in the league.
Regarding this potential move, Moton offered the following:
“Green Bay can make a move for Kayvon Thibodeaux with the intention of pairing him with Parsons for the long term. It’s a risky move given the four-year pro’s inconsistent production, but he could benefit from lining up across an elite pass-rusher. Also, new Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon can maximize Thibodeaux’s strengths in a mixed front.”
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, multiple league sources expect the Giants to trade Thibodeaux, who has one year left on his rookie contract. Green Bay could possibly get a deal done with a Day 2 pick.
As Moton mentioned, Thibodeaux has been rumored to be on the trade block, so it might not take much for the Packers to land him. The Giants have Abdul Carter and Brian Burns, so they may see Thibodeaux as expendable.
In 2025, Thibodeaux played in 10 games for the Giants and collected 25 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 5 tackles for loss. PFSN NFL EDGE Impact metrics gave Thibodeaux a respectable 83.6 grade for his 2025 performance, which ranked 19th among 123 qualified edge rushers.

In Green Bay, playing alongside Parsons, Thibodeaux could perhaps finally reach his ceiling in the league. The former top pick had 11.5 sacks in 2023 but has just 12 sacks in his other three seasons combined.
This late in the offseason, there is nobody on the market with as much upside as Thibodeaux. If the Packers want a relatively cheap option with high upside, Thibodeaux is the perfect option.
