Shane Beamer Dismisses Miami’s Poaching Rumors Regarding LaNorris Sellers

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer dismissed rumors of LaNorris Sellers transferring to Miami, confirming the QB's belief in the program.

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is one of the best returning prospects at his position in the country ahead of next season. Despite being linked with a move away from South Carolina via the transfer portal and a potential declaration for the 2026 NFL Draft, which is notoriously light on quarterback talent, he remained in Columbia.

After the Gamecocks flattered to deceive and ended the season with a 4-8 record, Sellers’ production also dipped dramatically, making the 2026 season a pivotal one for the quarterback’s draft stock.

South Carolina Coach Shane Beamer Addresses LaNorris Sellers Transfer Rumors

During this week’s segment of the “OG Kickoff” podcast, coach Shane Beamer addressed speculation that Sellers could be poached by the Miami Hurricanes via the transfer portal in January.

“I’m not naive. I know that at that time LaNorris had a decision to make. He could go to the NFL if he wanted to, he could transfer to another college if he wanted to. He had a lot of options,” Beamer said. “I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about where guys could go. In today’s times, everybody’s gonna wanna poach those guys.

“LaNorris was happy here, is happy here and has a good quality of life. More importantly, you can be happy, but if you don’t believe in the direction of the program and you don’t believe that you can have success winning football games, you’re not gonna stay.”

Last season, The Ringer analyst Todd McShay hinted that Sellers would remain in college football but transfer to the Hurricanes. After a frantic search for a quarterback to replace the departing Carson Beck, coach Mario Cristobal settled on former Duke Blue Devils star Darian Mensah.

Shane Beamer Challenges LaNorris Sellers Ahead of the 2026 Season

While speaking to reporters two weeks ago, Beamer challenged LaNorris to become the leader of the Gamecocks ahead of next season.

“There’s a step that LaNorris has to take as a leader on this football team,” Beamer said. “I’ve seen that and seen him grow, along with a lot of other guys that maybe weren’t in major leadership roles last season that are in leadership roles now. And they’ve embraced that.

“So I think it’s kind of exciting seeing it all come together, and now we’ve really got a chance over these next 15 practices to hit the gas pedal and increase the intentionality of what we’re doing, LaNorris as a leader and Kendal and all the quarterbacks’ relationships.”

Sellers earned a PFSN College QB Impact score of 78.7 after tallying 2,437 passing yards, resulting in 13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, while adding 270 rushing yards and 5 scores.
