Ryan Wingo on Texas Longhorns’ 2026 Offseason: ‘We Got a Different Mindset’

Ryan Wingo says Texas is taking it 'day by day' this offseason with a 'different mindset' — not looking ahead to 2026 championship expectations.

Ryan Wingo became Arch Manning’s primary target during the 2025 season and finished the year as Texas’s leader across all key statistical categories. The Longhorns fell short of earning a College Football Playoff spot, but Wingo, Manning, and the rest of the offensive core have already displayed the kind of talent that may position Texas for a national championship push in 2026.

Ryan Wingo on Texas’ Day-by-Day Approach This Offseason

In an interview with KVUE News’ Cory Mose, Ryan Wingo shared insight into the atmosphere inside the Texas locker room and the level of anticipation surrounding the upcoming season.

“We’re kind of taking it day by day,” Wingo said. “We got a different mindset this year. We ain’t trying to look ahead. So, like I said, we’re just focusing on day-to-day things. We’re on spring break now. So we get to get away from football, obviously, still gonna work out, but get away from football a little bit.”

Wingo put together a strong campaign in the 2025 season, finishing with 54 receptions for 834 yards and seven touchdowns. He played in three fewer games than in 2024, but his efficiency and production on the field improved significantly. His performance earned him a ranking as the No. 47 wide receiver nationally in the PFSN College Football WR Impact Metric with a score of 79.8.

Wingo has already built an impressive resume across his first two seasons at Texas. He has totaled 83 catches for 1,306 receiving yards while also contributing in the rushing game, adding 142 yards on 12 carries.

Wingo is expected to remain one of the most talked-about players for Texas during the offseason as the program continues its preparations for the 2026 season. The Longhorns opened spring practices last Monday, but Wingo was initially sidelined after undergoing offseason wrist surgery. By Wednesday’s practice, he was back on the field wearing his helmet and taking part in drills, though his involvement appeared to be limited as he continued working his way back.

With both Wingo and Emmett Mosley V unavailable early in spring practice, several receivers further down the depth chart have been given more opportunities to step up behind Cam Coleman. Players such as Kohen Brown, Daylan McCutcheon, Kaliq Lockett, Chris Stewart, and Jermaine Bishop Jr. have received additional reps during practice sessions.

Steve Sarkisian viewed it positively, as he wanted to give them a chance to get more reps during the spring.

“These guys are getting some more opportunities, with Emmett and Ryan being out,” Sarkisian said (via SI) last week. “And I think they’re doing their best right now to take advantage of it. I love that room. I think that room, from top to bottom, is probably as talented as we had in my time here. But again, that’s a quick snapshot of one day, but that room is very talented, and we get those two guys back, we’re going to be in good shape.”

Texas spring preparations will culminate in the annual Orange-White spring game on April 18. The Longhorns will then turn their attention to the start of the 2026 season, which is scheduled to begin on Sept. 5 against Texas State.
