Texas reeled in one of the top wide receivers available in the transfer portal by landing Cam Coleman. He is expected to make an immediate impact for the Longhorns, providing a dynamic weapon in the passing game and giving quarterback Arch Manning a reliable and explosive target as Texas looks to strengthen its offense.
Cowboys Legend Dez Bryant Picks Freshman Jermaine Bishop Over Cam Coleman as Texas’ Top Wide Receiver
Besides Coleman, the Texas wide receiver room is especially talented with standouts Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V. However, former Dallas Cowboys star and three-time Pro Bowler Dez Bryant has singled out freshman Jermaine Bishop as the player to watch in Texas’ wide receiver corps.
“I want to go on record and say Jermaine Bishop will be Texas Longhorns #1 WR. The eye test doesn’t lie. He’s oozing with confidence..I can tell by the way he carries himself. He already runs routes like a pro. Legit playmaker.. I’m looking forward to watching him perform this year,” Bryant tweeted on Wednesday.

Bishop, who is wearing No. 4 this fall, joined the Longhorns during the first spring practice on Monday without a defined position. Steve Sarkisian noted in December that the true freshman has the versatility to play both sides of the ball, but recent practice reps suggest the staff is leaning toward making him a full-time wide receiver.
While some project Bishop to rotate in rather than start as the top receiver this season, Bryant isn’t buying that.
“I can see him being just as dominant as Malachi Toney! I can see Bishop line up in the wildcat! The backfield. I wouldn’t be surprised if he played defense a bit… his type don’t come around that often. Eye test don’t lie!” Bryant tweeted.
Bishop was electric in the passing game during his 2025 senior season at Willis High School, finishing with 120 catches for 1,940 yards and 20 touchdowns while also contributing 424 rushing yards on 45 carries.
It’s safe to say Bryant is extremely high on Bishop, as he made multiple tweets about the wide receiver’s potential in Texas.
“The Miami Hurricanes..Coach Cristobal got behind their young playmaker and found themselves in the National Championship game! Ohio State Coach Day got behind his young playmaker and won a national championship game..those coaches didn’t turn a blind eye.. I’m sure Coach Sark is going to do the same if Bishop goes crazy. Those other guys are really really good. Bishop’s a dawg!” another tweet from Bryant read.
Bishop is certainly expected to make flashes, but that top receiver nod is definitely a bold comment, as Sarkisian and the Texas coaching staff have already been impressed with Coleman off the field during recent workouts. He is the biggest transfer Sarkisian has landed in his time in Austin.
Coleman is considered one of the best 50/50 ball catchers in the country and finished the 2025 season with a 75.2 score in the PFSN College Football WR Impact Metric.
