Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Świątek have delivered some incredible performances at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden so far. Both top players have reached the final eight of the tournament and will take on their opponents tonight, hoping to reach the semifinals and potentially lift their third titles.
During a recent interview, the tournament director, Tommy Haas, said that both players have a slight edge over the others and are the favorites to win.
Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Świątek Backed by Indian Wells Director
World No. 1 Alcaraz has delivered some magnificent performances at the Tennis Paradise so far this year after completing his career Grand Slam at the age of 22. After receiving a bye in the first round, the Spaniard defeated Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3 with ease in his first match.
He then faced serious competition from the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, who took the first set 7-6(6), but Alcaraz ultimately prevailed 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-2 to take the match. He recently defeated the 13th seed Casper Ruud 6-1, 7-6(2) in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals.
Świątek, on the other hand, has been even more untouchable, reaching the final eight without dropping a set. Despite the quarterfinal exits in Melbourne and Doha, the Polish Champion has shown a very lethal side at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens, which helped her lift the trophy twice in 2022 and 2024.
She defeated Kayla Day 6-0, 7-6(2) dominantly in her first match after receiving a bye in the first round. Świątek then locked horns with the 2022 and 2024 Indian Wells runner-up Maria Sakkari and defeated her 6-3, 6-2, setting up a high-octane clash with the 2026 Qatar Open Champion Karolína Muchová. The Pole completely dominated the match and went back home in just over 75 minutes with a final scoreline of 6-2, 6-0.
Following such a dominant display by these two-time champions, tennis analysts and experts began discussing whether they can lift their third titles at the Tennis Paradise this year. The tournament director, Haas, jumped in to give his verdict on these former champions, saying,
“I think the conditions suit them really well. You’ve got to give Iga and Carlos the edge and potentially the favor to win the tournament here once again. Or at least you got to go through them. And the people that might go through them probably then have the chance to win it.”
These words by the director show the confidence he has in these stars, given their recent performances and their history with the tournament itself. Adding to his assessment, Haas spoke more about Alcaraz, noting his unbeaten record in 2026.
“On the men’s side with Carlos Alcaraz, I think the way he’s moving and he can just, make the ball so fast on both sides, he’s got to be feeling pretty confident and hasn’t lost a match this year so far. And I’m sure he’s trying to keep that streak going as well,” he concluded.
The Spaniard is arguably enjoying the best start to a season of his career, having not only reached the quarterfinals in Melbourne but also lifted the trophy.
On his way to glory, Alcaraz went through some of the most physical tests of his career, including the longest three-set match of his career at a Grand Slam and the nearly 5 hours and 30 minutes semifinal against World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, before taking on the Serbian legend Novak Djokovic, who had gone unbeaten in Australian Open finals, having won all 10 of his appearances.
Alcaraz and Świątek’s Next Tests at Indian Wells
If we consider the Polish champion first, after scoring two bagels in the tournament so far, she is set to face the ninth seed, Elina Svitolina, in the quarterfinals tonight, March 12. Now, according to PFSN’s exclusive interactive simulator, Świątek has a slight edge over the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships runner-up, with a 61% chance of winning the match.
Their head-to-head record paints a similar picture, with the two-time champion leading 4-1 in their past five meetings. One thing to note here is that whenever Świątek has won against Svitolina, she has never dropped a set; even when she lost, she at least took a set, showing her resilience.
If she manages to maintain her momentum and execute her plans against the Ukrainian, Świątek can make another semifinal at Tennis Paradise, and potentially even lift the title.
Alcaraz, on the other hand, needs no statistics or odds; he just needs his tennis rackets and the fans rallying behind him to turn everything in his favor. So far in 2026, he is 15-0 and has dropped only 5 sets across those matches. Up next, he faces the 27th seed, Cameron Norrie, with a whopping 93% chance of reaching the semifinal, according to PFSN’s exclusive interactive simulator.
Last year, a fellow Briton, Jack Draper, halted Alcaraz’s two-time title defense in the semifinal and went on to lift the title. If the Spaniard is prepared for the upcoming match, he has a high chance of facing the 11th seed, Daniil Medvedev, again at Tennis Paradise.
Interestingly, on both occasions when the Spaniard lifted the title in Indian Wells, he faced the Russian in the championship match, defeating him twice consecutively to become a two-time champion.
