Chidobe Awuzie Has the Best Response to Reporter Saying His Ravens Deal Is Worth $5

The Baltimore Ravens re-signed Chidobe Awuzie, with the CB joking about a reporter’s typo while reporting his new contract.

The Baltimore Ravens are bringing back a familiar face in the secondary after agreeing to a one-year, $5 million deal with veteran cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. After a strong first season in Baltimore, where the 30-year-old was at times the team’s most reliable corner, the move made plenty of football sense.

But the announcement came with a comedic twist. When an NFL reporter posted about the deal with a typo, Awuzie quickly jumped into the conversation, not letting it slide.

Chidobe Awuzie Finds Humor in Reporter’s Typo in Contract Report

The Ravens saw enough in his first year to trust Awuzie with the reins once again. It’s a great sign of appreciation for the player to be re-signed in free agency.

The Athletic’s senior reporter Jeff Zrebiec posted on X: “The Ravens have agreed to a one-year, $5 deal with veteran CB Chidobe Awuzie, sources say. Awuzie played well for the Ravens last year and now he’s back. @MikeGarafolo was first on the agreement.”

Zrebiec’s post contained one glaring detail: The contract was worth $5 million — not $5. Awuzie quickly responded.

Reposting the report, Awuzie joked, “just enough for a hot n spicy McChicken. 😋” It was all in good fun, especially after the veteran corner quietly delivered a dependable first season in Baltimore.

Minutes after his original tweet, Zrebiec issued a clarification.

Awuzie originally joined the Ravens in March 2025 after departing the Tennessee Titans. His initial deal, signed March 25, was reportedly worth around $1.25 million, a modest contract that ultimately delivered strong value to Baltimore’s secondary.

On the field, Awuzie appeared in 14 games and recorded 29 solo tackles with 14 assists as the Ravens finished 8-9. More importantly, his coverage numbers held up well against starting-caliber receivers across the season.

Among cornerbacks who played at least 20% of their team’s snaps, Awuzie finished with the 13th-highest grade from Pro Football Focus. According to Next Gen Stats, he forced tight-window throws on 27.6% of his targets. That’s a higher rate than teammates Marlon Humphrey (21.1%) and Nate Wiggins (20.4%), with whom he would be teaming up again.

And that’s exactly why the team has put faith in him once again. Baltimore already has depth with Humphrey, Wiggins, and young defensive backs like T.J. Tampa and Keyon Martin returning, but Awuzie adds that oomph factor.

After finishing No. 22 in PFSN’s NFL CB Impact Metric, his steady presence could once again help anchor the Ravens’ cornerback rotation heading into the new season.
