The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the teams reportedly in the mix to potentially sign Trey Hendrickson during 2026 NFL free agency. The star edge player instead agreed to a deal with the Baltimore Ravens. This has prompted general manager Howie Roseman to be urged to pursue a trade for a different superstar at the position.
Eagles Advised to Pivot to Trade Market After Missing Out on Trey Hendrickson
Hendrickson entered the 2026 NFL offseason as arguably the best available edge player after failing to sign a contract extension with the Cincinnati Bengals. This made him a top target for several teams, but he chose an AFC North division rival: the Ravens.
Ravens and Trey Hendrickson reached agreement on a four-year, $112 million contract.

The Eagles were one of the teams that apparently missed out on pursuing Hendrickson, as they look to improve the edge of their defense. ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky suggested they could do so with a blockbuster trade.
“Howie Roseman should go get Maxx Crosby,” stated Orlovsky.

Roseman has been well known for being aggressive in the trade market, and he has also built a reputation for prioritizing the line on both sides of the football. This includes often targeting productive edge players, which is likely why they were interested in Hendrickson.
The Ravens landed him in free agency, but it was only after their trade for Maxx Crosby shockingly fell through. They had agreed to send two first-round draft picks to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for the superstar, but he reportedly failed his physical, and they ultimately backed out of the deal.
They then quickly pivoted to Hendrickson, and now Orlovsky believes the Eagles should do the same. Crosby is reportedly still available, pending his alleged medical concerns, and Philadelphia was reportedly pursuing him before the Ravens agreed to the trade that never became official.
Crosby has been one of the best overall defenders during his career with the Raiders, including finishing among the top two edge players in PFSN’s Impact Rankings in four of the past five seasons. Las Vegas likely only made him available because they were rebuilding their roster and because his trade value was among their most desirable assets.
It will be interesting to see whether their asking price lowers due to his failed physical for the Raiders, and whether the reasoning behind it raises major concerns. If everything checks out, the Eagles are encouraged to make a big move.
