AC Milan Defender Says Christian Pulisic Is ‘Best Player America’s Had in’ Years

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has labelled his club teammate Christian Pulisic as a modern-day American soccer great.

United States men’s national team (USMNT) talisman Christian Pulisic is widely regarded as one of the best American soccer players of all time. He has earned fame over the years through spells at top European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and AC Milan.

And, one AC Milan star has showered special praise on the 82-cap USMNT international.

Christian Pulisic Receives Big Recognition From AC Milan Ace

During a recent interview with The Athletic, AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori was asked to share his honest thoughts on the American attacker, a former Chelsea teammate.

Tomori replied, “People underestimate him… people don’t realise how fast he is. They don’t realise how sharp he is with the ball, how good he is with the ball, how intelligent he is. You only realise it when he’s scored a goal against you. I knew him from Chelsea.”

Tomori, who has played alongside the 27-year-old USMNT ace 100 times at Chelsea and AC Milan, insisted Pulisic has a peaceful personality and is a modern-day American great.

“Puli’s a top, top professional. A really top guy. He always wants to improve. If he misses a shot in training, he’s like, ‘Why did I do that?’ But he’s really calm and nice to be around… very level-headed even, you know, the best player America’s had in God knows how long. But he’s very calm, level-headed, very simple, I’d say,” the 28-year-old added.

Pulisic, a one-time UEFA Champions League winner, opened the 2025-26 season on a great note, scoring 10 times in his first 15 matches in all competitions for Milan. However, he has hit a rough patch since the turn of the year, failing to net even once in 2026.

Both Pulisic and Tomori will next be in action for AC Milan in their Serie A game against city rivals Inter Milan, who are 10 points ahead of the Rossoneri, this Sunday, Mar. 8.

Meanwhile, former Italy international Giuseppe Rossi has urged top USMNT players such as Pulisic and Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie to continue playing in Europe.

When queried by GOAL if a USMNT ace can develop into an elite player in the Major League Soccer (MLS), he replied, “That is a big challenge, but the real football is played in Europe. It has a long, long way to go to be at the same level of a Premier League, of a Serie A, of a Bundesliga. And rightfully so, (top players) should aspire to play in Europe.”

Apart from the aforesaid pair, Folarin Balogun, Antonee Robinson, Tyler Adams, and Ricardo Pepi are among the USMNT stars currently playing in Europe.
