Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis. Simpson, who is one of the prospects fighting to be the second quarterback off the board on draft night, was one of the best performers at the combine, where the projected QB1, Fernando Mendoza, did not throw.
Analyst Outlines QB Ty Simpson Draft Risk
In a lengthy post on X on Monday, former Super Bowl champion Bucky Brooks, who was also a scout, detailed the risks that NFL teams will have to weigh when considering selecting Simpson on draft night.
“The Ty Simpson conversation will be fascinating after the Combine. The desperation for a franchise QB will lead someone to take a flyer on an outlier (size/arm talent/experience) with a top pick. Despite the late-season drop off and durability concerns, teams and analysts will ignore the red flags and push him as a QB1 worthy of Top-15 consideration.
“The Alabama standout rolled the dice when he elected to enter the draft. Based on circumstances, it could work out in his favor on draft night whether he’s ready or worthy or not,” Brooks tweeted.

Simpson spent most of his college football career as a backup before finally clinching the Crimson Tide’s QB1 job when Jalen Milroe departed for the NFL last season. Simpson only managed 15 starts in his career before declaring for the NFL Draft.
Simpson Details NFL-Readiness
Despite only being a one-year starter in Tuscaloosa, Simpson outlined how playing for the Crimson Tide affected his NFL-readiness while speaking to reporters at the NFL Draft Combine on Saturday.
“I’m ready. I’m a franchise quarterback,” Simpson said. “Alabama prepares you most for the NFL. I’ve run an NFL-type system. It definitely prepared me for saying those long play calls, saying those checks, making sure that I get us in the right [offensive line] protection. I’ve played against really good NFL players.

“I think about my freshman year, learning from the No. 1 overall pick and Heisman Trophy winner [Bryce Young]. Going against defense on scout team, I got Will Anderson, Dallas Turner, Henry To’oTo’o. I got Kool-Aid [McKinstry] on one side and Terrion [Arnold] on the other side. The Alabama locker room was as close to an NFL locker room as you can get.”
In his sole season as a starter, Simpson led the Crimson Tide to an 11-4 record, while tallying 3,567 passing yards, resulting in 28 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, while adding 93 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, earning a PFSN College QB Impact score of 85.4.
