Bucșa vs. Fręch Head-to-Head
The head-to-head between the two players going into the Merida Open final stands at 2-1 in Fręch’s favor. All three of their meetings so far have come in ITF events. The last time they met was in 2021, with the Pole winning in straight sets.
Bucșa has enjoyed an incredible run to the final and has yet to drop a set at the tournament, defeating the likes of Jasmine Paolini, Zeynep Sönmez, and Donna Vekić in the process. What makes this run even more remarkable is that she had won only one match in 2026 before this tournament.
This will be the Spaniard’s second final on the WTA Tour. She was beaten by Victoria Mboko in three sets in her first in November 2025.
Fręch has fared slightly better since the turn of the year, but her main draw singles record going into the Merida Open was 4-5. The 28-year-old has enjoyed wins over Marie Bouzková, Zhang Shuai, and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro en route to the final.
Bucșa vs. Fręch Prediction
There is not much to separate the two players ahead of the Merida Open final. Fręch has been solid on her serve so far this year, performing better than the WTA average in a number of parameters. She is also more than capable of hitting aces at will.
Bucșa, on the other hand, slightly edges out the return statistics for 2026 with an impressive break point conversion rate of 51.3%.
The win over Paolini was Bucșa’s first against a top-10-ranked player on the WTA Tour. And she will hope to build on the momentum earned from that win by clinching her first title on the WTA Tour at the Merida Open on Sunday.
But Fręch’s experience of playing in more big matches could give her the edge in this one. It will be all about who can win the big points and capitalize on the opportunities that come their way in the final. And we are backing Fręch to come out on top in this one.
Pick – Fręch to win in three sets.
