Team USA’s Olympic hockey win brought pride across the country, and it became a major moment, especially considering they defeated Team Canada. Players celebrated the victory with emotion after a hard-fought final. The scene inside the locker room captured that excitement, but it also drew attention outside of hockey.
It led to questions that went beyond the game and into public office.
Kash Patel’s Locker-Room Celebration With USA players Has Reportedly Upset President Donald Trump
Donald Trump was reportedly unhappy with Kash Patel after the FBI director joined the U.S. men’s hockey team during their locker-room celebration in Milan.
The team had just secured a 2-1 overtime win against Canada to claim the gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The result marked a major step for the American program and ended a long stretch of Canadian success in Olympic events with NHL players.
Jack Hughes scored the winning goal early in overtime after taking a pass from Zach Werenski during 3-on-3 play. The puck slipped through the five-hole of Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington, setting off celebrations on the ice and later inside the locker room.
Players jumped over the boards, threw their gear, and gathered around Hughes as the arena filled with chants. Connor Hellebuyck also played a key role, making 41 saves.
While the team’s win stood as the main story, videos from inside the locker room drew attention online. The clips showed Patel chanting with players, hitting a table, and drinking beer during the celebration. He was also seen wearing a gold medal, which further fueled discussion about his presence in the room.

According to NBC News, Trump privately told Patel that he was not pleased with his conduct. Trump, who does not drink alcohol, also raised concerns about Patel using a government aircraft for the trip to Milan.
The White House did not directly respond to the report about the conversation. Instead, spokesperson Abigail Jackson highlighted Patel’s work by praising the law and order team, saying, “The President has full confidence in his Administration.”
The FBI stated that Patel’s visit had been scheduled earlier and included official meetings with Italian law enforcement and the U.S. ambassador. Patel also addressed the situation on X, saying he was “extremely humbled” to be invited by friends on the team to celebrate the win. Still, the reaction to the incident has been mixed among supporters and dissenters.
