Competing in the WTA 250 event in Austin, Texas, as a wildcard, Townsend made the most of the opportunity. The left-hander has long been regarded as one of the most skillful players in the game, particularly in doubles, but her singles career has featured stretches of rebuilding and recalibration.

Her run this week stood out not only for the result but also for unfolding in both draws. Townsend advanced to the semifinals in singles and doubles, underlining her versatility and fitness across formats.

Continuing her momentum into the quarterfinals, Townsend faced Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova. After dropping the first set in a tight battle, the American surged back to win the next two sets comfortably, securing a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory in two hours and 20 minutes.

This win propelled her into her first career WTA singles semifinals. Within seconds of match point, a tearful Townsend climbed into the stands to embrace her son Adyn, a scene that drew applause from the Austin crowd.

Looking ahead, Townsend will take on either Chinese lucky loser Yue Yuan or compatriot Ashlyn Krueger in the semifinals.
