Emma Raducanu Urged To Adopt Roger Federer’s Approach With Bold Coaching Move by Former British No. 1

Former British No. 1 suggested that Emma Raducanu should consider adopting a Roger Federer-like coaching strategy to regain her top form.

Emma Raducanu parted ways with her coach, Francisco Roig, after the 2026 Australian Open. With Raducanu without a coach, former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski suggested ways for her to regain her best form. Rusedski recommended that she consider making coaching changes similar to those Roger Federer made during his career.

Greg Rusedski Wants Emma Raducanu To Learn From Roger Federer’s Approach

Raducanu has a history of changing coaches frequently. Before her split with Roig, she had worked with several others, including Nick Cavaday, Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Vlado Platenik, and Mark Petchey.

Recently, while speaking on his podcast, “Off Court with Greg,” Rusedski recalled how Federer spent some time without a coach in 2004, which he described as “possibly the best thing” that happened to the Swiss.

“I remember Roger Federer going through a period by himself without a coach, and it was possibly the best thing for him. He figured out certain things for himself and took ownership of it. We saw her [Raducanu] in Romania get to the finals. Yes, she did not perform as well as she would like in the finals. So she has got to figure out herself and figure out the relationship where she sees eye-to-eye with the coach with how she wants to play out there,” Rusedski said.

Rusedski expressed that, like Federer, Raducanu needs to understand her own game and establish a coaching relationship that resonates with her.

“She has got to have the right mindset with the coach in terms of how she has to play, what her techniques need to be on the court, and have that clarity. A little bit of time away without a coach right now, someone who is just hitting her, might be a real positive until she finds someone she is on the same page with week in and week out, because she has not found that person yet. Hopefully she does,” he added.

Looking ahead, Raducanu is expected to compete at the 2026 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. The tournament will take place from March 4 to March 15, 2026, on the outdoor hard courts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

In addition to the former World No. 10, players like Amanda Anisimova, Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, defending champion Mirra Andreeva, as well as former champions Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek, Elena Rybakina, and Naomi Osaka, among others, are also expected to compete at the WTA 1000 tournament.

Raducanu achieved her best result at the BNP Paribas Open in 2023 when she reached the fourth round (losing to Świątek) after defeating Danka Kovinić, Magda Linette, and Beatriz Haddad Maia.
