Taylor Fritz vs Marcos Giron Preview: Head-to-Head, Prediction for Dallas Open 2026

Taylor Fritz will look to bounce back from his Australian Open fourth-round exit as he takes on Marcos Giron at the Dallas Open.

Top seed Taylor Fritz will look to put his Australian Open exit behind him as he aims to win his maiden title at the Dallas Open. The 28-year-old will take on compatriot Marcos Giron, with the winner facing Brandon Nakashima in the second round.

Fritz’s participation comes nothing short of a surprise given the fitness issues he talked about during the Australian Open, notably the ones with his knee and oblique. Nonetheless, one can hope the American to be in better condition than he was a few weeks back.

Like Fritz, Giron also last competed at the Australian Open, losing 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-2 to eventual quarterfinalist Learner Tien.

Fritz vs. Giron Head-to-Head

The two have locked horns seven times previously on the ATP Tour, with Fritz leading the head-to-head 5-2. They have also faced one another twice previously, with both players winning once each. Their last encounter came in the quarterfinals of last year’s Eastbourne International, with Fritz edging out Giron 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.

Fritz vs. Giron Prediction

Giron has had a relatively better start to 2026 compared to Fritz, winning six out of nine matches compared to the latter’s 4-4 record. That said, the World No. 7 will enter the match as the favorite to win due to his better head-to-head record.

Fritz’s first-serve numbers at the Australian Open were impressive, winning 219 out of 278 points (78.8%), serving 79 aces in his four matches. The World No. 7 also produced 184 winners compared to 147 unforced errors. His serve has always been a key weapon on hard courts and he will look to make the most of it, as well as his powerful groundstrokes.

Giron won 72 out of 106 points on his first serve during his only match at the Australian Open, serving 14 aces. The 32-year-old also produced 49 winners compared to 47 unforced errors. One notable point was Giron winning 18 out of 23 net points and he will look to draw Fritz closer to the net whenever he can.

Giron is a good mover on hard courts and has often done well in Dallas, reaching the final in 2024, the semifinals in 2022, and the quarterfinals in 2022. Nonetheless, the 32-year-old will have to be at his best if he is to make things difficult for Fritz.

The Dallas Open could give us a clearer idea about the World No. 7’s fitness issue and if he is close to his physical best, there is no doubt that he will get another win over Giron and book his place in the second round of the ATP 500 event.

Pick: Fritz to win in straight sets.
