The Washington Wizards appear to be a full-stacked team after the multiple trade deals they got involved in before the deadline. Earlier in January, the Wizards secured Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks, bringing in an All-Star-caliber player for the first time since the departure of John Wall and Bradley Beal.
Fast forward to this February, the Wizards were involved in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks, securing Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell, Dante Exum, and Jaden Hardy. While the Wizards’ general manager is excited to see what the trio of Davis, Young, and Young would look like, it remains unclear whether Russell will form a trio with the two stars. Apparently, D-Lo is willing to return under a certain condition.

Wizards and D’Angelo Russell Still Figuring Things Out
In a recent interview, Wizards general manager Will Dawkins revealed that Russell isn’t expected to play for the team yet. Apparently, both parties are still trying to see if Washington is a perfect fit for Russell or if he’ll decide to move on entirely.
“With D’Angelo, we’ve talked to him, talked to his representatives at the time,” Dawkins said. “He’s not going to report until we try to figure out what’s best for him and us in our future.”
According to Wizards’ GM Will Dawkins, D’Angelo Russell is “not going to report until we try to figure out what’s best for him and us in our future.”
He was thrown in as part of the Anthony Davis trade from Dallas, and it sounds as if his time in DC will close before it starts.

Several sources reported that D-Lo is a candidate for either a buyout or being waived by the Wizards. Dawkins admitted in the interview that they already waived Exum. As for Hardy, he isn’t expected to have any playing time as of yet.

Having all that in mind, we’re not entirely sure what the future holds for Russell. If he ends up getting waived from the Wizards, we could expect to see him suit up for another team after the All-Star break.
Teams are still technically eligible to sign other players available in the free agency market until March 1. With that in mind, Russell and his team of representatives need to decide quickly whether he wants to stick around in Washington and play alongside the duo of Davis and Young.
