Everyone will have their notifications on for when Shams Charania reveals the latest trade news going on in the NBA. However, when it comes to his constant reporting on the events involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, they are starting to lose patience with the NBA insider.
NBA Fans Roast Shams Charania Over Reporting on Antetokounmpo
Charania has been active in the inside reporting sphere for Yahoo Sports since the mid-2010s. He finally took the insider role at ESPN in 2024, replacing the retiring Adrian Wojnarowski.
The relatively young insider has embraced his status as the league’s top insider, having fans keep in touch with the latest reporting he has in store every season. This has especially been the case with his intel on Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, which he has been placing tabs over the past couple of months.
However, the frequent nature of his discussion of the events has drawn criticism from NBA fans. With the trade deadline approaching, they hope that Charania finally figures out what the Bucks plan to do with their franchise star, rather than elevating rumors as he has since the start of the 2025-26 season. Here are some of their thoughts on the latest events.
“Legacy week for Shams… if they are no big trades then I’m taking him off my notis. He has been milking this “Giannis story” like he is a YouTuber,” one fan said, referring to Charania’s overemphasis of the trade rumors.
“Shams dropping Giannis updates every 3 hours he’s blocked if Giannis still on the Bucks after the trade deadline,” another remarked, showing their growing impatience with Charania.
“Shams so far this deadline: 0-8 on Giannis rumours (0%), 12 ESPN links, 5 Games Postponed, 1 Real Trade. BRING BACK WOJ 🙏,” one commented, wanting to see Wojnarowski come out of insider retirement.
“The media is generating smoke for something that isn’t there fueled by Shams. We all knew this was about to happen once he joined ESPN,” another responded, knowing how ESPN looks at specific events involving stars. “I miss Woj. Shams just be tweeting for clicks,” a fan said, not approving of Charania’s reporting and wanting Wojnarowski’s return to the insider space.
What Lies Ahead for Antetokounmpo and Bucks?
The good news for NBA fans is that the trade deadline is later this week. However, they might have to brace for a whole summer of rumors if Antetokounmpo remains with the Bucks past the trade deadline this month.
Milwaukee has an 18-29 record on the season, holding the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They are 5.5 games ahead of the Brooklyn Nets and the Washington Wizards. However, they trail the Charlotte Hornets by three games and the Atlanta Hawks by four games.
Going through five consecutive losses, the Bucks will hope to return to the win column in their next matchup. They begin a three-game homestand by hosting the Chicago Bulls on Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. ET, the New Orleans Pelicans on Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. ET, and the Indiana Pacers on Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. ET.
