Jessica Pegula enjoyed cuddles with her dog, Mabel, after returning home from the Australian Open. The 31-year-old came close to winning the women’s singles title at Melbourne Park, but fell to eventual champion Elena Rybakina in the semifinals.
Pegula delivered strong performances at the Australian Open, eliminating defending champion Madison Keys before defeating two-time Grand Slam finalist Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals.
Jessica Pegula Spends Time With Her Dog After Returning From the Australian Open
Pegula, who introduced Mabel on the “The Player’s Box” podcast in December, shared a picture on her Instagram story of herself hanging out with her dog on Monday. The 31-year-old is a huge dog lover and has four pet dogs at home. Maddie, Des, and Lemmy are the names of her other pet dogs.

She also helped start “A Lending Paw“, a charity that is dedicated to raising funds to support organizations that rescue and rehabilitate dogs, train them as service animals, and place them with those in need.
Continuing with the animal theme, Pegula also recently shared a carousel of her excursions from January on Instagram. Having spent close to a month in Australia, she shared pictures of herself posing with a koala and a kangaroo.
What Next for Pegula After the Australian Open
Pegula showcased her quality as one of the most consistent players in women’s tennis by making the Australian Open semifinals. She will now have her sights set on continuing her fine run of form as the tennis season inches closer to the Sunshine Swing.
It appears that Pegula will next be in action at the Qatar Open. The WTA 1000 tournament will get underway on Feb. 8. Pegula was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open last year.
Following that, she will take part in the Dubai Tennis Championships, scheduled to begin on Feb. 15. Pegula was eliminated in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament last year.
After the Middle East Swing, Pegula will return home to begin her preparations for the Sunshine Swing. She is scheduled to compete in the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin. This will be the United States’ first tennis tournament of the year.
Pegula won the ATX Open last year on her tournament debut, defeating McCartney Kessler in the final in straight sets.
