Davante Adams Can’t Hold Back Emotions While Breaking Down Rams’ NFC Title Game Loss to Seahawks

After a heartbreaking loss in the NFC Championship Game, a clearly distraught 34-year-old Davante Adams remains unsure about his future.

For the third time this year, the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams faced off in an instant classic. All three games came right down to the wire, but the one-seed in the NFC was able to pull out wins in two separate games. The finale of those games came in the NFC Championship Game, with the Seahawks emerging victorious.

The loss ended the Rams’ hopes. But one player on the roster took the loss worse than almost anyone else on the team. That was Los Angeles’ prize offseason acquisition, Davante Adams, who appeared visibly distraught in the locker room after their Sunday night clash.

Davante Adams May Have Lost His Last Shot

A second-round pick in 2014, Adams has long been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league and one of its most precise, accurate route runners. An incredible resume has put him in rarefied history across the NFL.

A three-time All-Pro, six-time Pro Bowler, and the league leader in receiving touchdowns on three separate occasions, he has regularly been among the best at his position. However, the one achievement that has eluded him throughout his career is the biggest prize in the sport.

Despite being on an excellent Green Bay Packers squad for eight seasons, Adams failed to reach the Super Bowl even once in his career. Then, with the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets, those seemed like impossible goals.

However, this season, a glimmer of hope sprang back to life as he joined a Rams team that has perennially been in the playoff fold. But for the fifth time in his career, Adams came up short as he was eliminated in the Championship Game.

After the contest, his emotions were clear as day to see as reporters caught up to him in the locker room.  “It’s tough, it’s tough to even talk right now.” As he took a long moment to compose himself, his eyes welled up in an instant.

“Proud of the way the guys worked today.” He admitted that he couldn’t focus on his future for the time being. At 33, age isn’t on Adams’ side, especially in a position as taxing and physically demanding as the wide receiver spot.

“Obviously, I love this team, love what this team is about, love the fight that we had all year. It just s**ks to come up short.” After a spectacular season that is likely going to give Matthew Stafford his first MVP of his career, the Rams were a legitimate contender for the title.

However, thanks to a resilient Seattle team at home, they will fall just short of the Super Bowl. The future remains a question mark with this team, particularly for Adams, but if he chooses to return, they have all the pieces to be just as good, if not better, next season.
